Outside the Titans, I usually reserve any comments for the Ottoville-Kalida rivalry in all sports since that is always interesting in the county with the communities being so similar, but we're going all Ottoville on this one. Lady Big Green, it's long long overdue for your school to bring home a basketball state title. No more settling for just getting to state . With all due respect to the Vikings on Thursday's game, the Vikes are just not nearly as deep or experienced to make a state title run, so it is truly time you greenies joined the ranks of Putnam county schools with a state title. Harvest Prep is still on probation, & old nemesis Africentric is in D3, so the stars are aligned there also, although you did catch a bad break with losing the point-guard Kaufman girl. 3 AP poll championships in 4 years just adds to that fact that you belong. You've knocked off all the underclassmen-laden schools so far with a vengeance. Last year you caught a bad break when some Putnam county blood in the Recker girls beat you at Elida, along with a couple banked-in 3-pointers if I remember right, but it's time to put all those memories behind you. In fact, I am going to give you the ULTIMATE incentive to think about----Fort Jennings High has one basketball state title, and you have zero!! Doesn't that get you motivated? LOL Good luck Lady Green. Time to join the ranks of Putnam schools with state title banners in the gym. Let's get it done this year!

Good luck to Ottoville this year - if Leipsic or Arcadia cannot defeat you, I am all in for the Big Green to keep the title in NW Ohio.

Not real sure I agree with the Arlington comments by Justin44, but don't care - Arlington got it done last year by playing tremendous defense and the team that wins it this year will most likely do the same. Good luck to Leipsic, Arcadia and Ottoville in the tourney run. It's an awesome experience that not many will ever get the opportunity to experience.

Justin, Thanks for your comments, but D-4 was weak last year accept for your team and Ottoville. Ottoville has been to the state 3-4 times more that your team. They lost to Africentic by 3 and Berlind-Highland by 3, neither of these teams were in the state last year. You had a great year. Ottoville probably have to beat Fort. L. or Triad and then play Berlin-Highland IFFFF they get that far. I hope they will. Go Green....

Nobody from Ottoville has an opinion about the L/OV game, come on where are you? Ottoville should win by 20, but you never know. Go Lady Green...

Not from Ottoville but I feel like I've been adopted by them from covering their games all season. Their defense is legit and it's insane just how quickly they turn it on and off.

Can't wait to get to the field house and get the headphones on for this one.....expecting a huge crowd like we had at Lima Senior....wow was Putnam County represented there in huge numbers.

This team is a blast to watch, you can just see them having fun and the coaching staff in Vaughn and Dave are great gentlemen to chat with.

Arlington did have a lot of things go their way against Ottoville last year and obviously that Holgate game. I mean there was at least 3-4 huge banked threes that I counted and couple other things that basically went Arlingtons way. But I am not discrediting their success last year. They earned that state championship. It's just like we always talked about on here, in order to win state you need things to go your way or what you said earlier, luck. I thought Ottoville to this day was the more talented, deeper team last year. But one night is all it takes for a team to be on their game and have things go their way. I think Crestview defined that Saturday night. Most people thought that if any team in this regional that could knock Ottoville off it would be Crestview. But Crestview just came out flat and timid a bit. They are a young team which showed in that game and Ottoville's size and ability to score around the peremiter was huge. Lucky for Crestview, Ottoville still missed some easy bunny shots down low or this game coulda been worse. The one thing Ottoville is doing right is beating the teams they are suppose to beat right now and by a large margin. Last year in the sectionals and disctricts they were squeeking by those teams.
No object is mysterious. The mystery is your eye.

Sry Von, I don't think Leipsic has a chance. They beat a good Patrick Henry team. But they will no answer for our in and out game. Ottoville by 25-30 pts. This is gonna be a fun 2 weeks. Congrats to the 6th grade girls winning another tournament. They are currently unbeaten. Congrats

You have lots to be excited about covering the Green Wave! They are very talented for sure and of course have tremendous size. It will take an awfully good effort to beat them this year. Our recipe for success was good guard play, and tremendous defensive pressure on guards to keep ball out of post. You also will have to shoot it well from outside b/c inside points will be at a premium against O'ville. Not sure who that team could be - Leipsic matches up size wise - but not sure they can pull this one off. Arcadia has the guard play, but not sure they are deep enough....could be the Big Green's year. Enjoy it - one thing is for sure, girls basketball in this part of the state at the D4 level is awesome to watch! The house will be packed similar to last year when 1 vs. 2 played - will never forget that game - it was an incredible atmosphere - better than even the state atmosphere.

Patrick Henry was not that good in my opinion. I said all day Friday and Saturday at the Ottoville game that Leipsic would beat Patrick Henry. Patrick Henry's record can be misleading. I will say they did play Archbold and lost to them, which is having a good season over in Division 3, but other than that their toughest challenge was Leipsic.

Sterio.....

You have been following my rankings and that is why you knew that Patrick Henry was not a very good team even though they had a good record.........I have always felt that outside of the PCL......all those leagues up north are just average in girls hoops!!!!!!

And by the way.......Leipsic has no chance of beating Ottoville providing Ottoville's entire team does not come down with the flu!!!!!

lol flounder which is why I turn only to you and Rocketmans rankings. But me picking Leipsic was not because of your rankings sorry bud lol. Other people at the game Saturday thought I was crazy when I said that Leipsic would beat Patrick Henry. But ya couldn't agree more with what you said there. I could see Ottoville crusing right along in this regional.

I picked Leipsic and I don't read rankings, I just know what I've seen on the court from them this year.

There is no doubt Leipsic will be the underdog, but 20-25 points?? Leipsic has two 6 footers, a very good guard and good coaching. It's discrediting your own team when you beat down the other successful programs all the time. It's regionals, everybody's good. A poor shooting night, injury or foul trouble could drastically change a game.

Ya but this same Leispic team lost to Ottoville by 22 points a month ago so that could be why. Their size can help get rebounds and contain Ottovilles bigs which is something Perry, Grove, Crestview didn't have. What I seen out of the first game is that Leipsic had one guard that was the main ball handler for that team and the other guards struggled. I don't think it's premature if they are considered 20 point underdogs. Although I will agree with you on your last sentence that this late in the tournament anything can happen and teams usually bring their best game. I think this game could be closer than the first meeting, but then again it may not be.

Looking back at the box score, it looks like the supporing casts were the difference. The bigs (Siefker/ Beinng 13 pts - Gerdeman/ Nadler 9pts) appeared to be a wash from a scoring standpoint. Mangas/ Turnwald and Vorst combined for 43 points, and Gerten for Leipsic was the only double figure scorer with 11. No rebound or turnover stats were listed.

Isn't Miss Magnus formally from Leipsic? I think her dad is the Supt. of Ottoville S. D. Great story.

Not sure who "Miss Magnus" is, but Taylor Mangas did reside with her family in Leipsc until Scott took a job in Ottoville first as a principal, then superintendent was added.

Von, you need a secretary to help with your research.

She is first cousin to Leipsic Devon Mangas who was PCL POY and Taylor's dad was the coach of the last Leipsic team to make it to regional, When Leipsic boys went in 97.
