As teams start to be knocked out of the tournament...has anyone heard any murmurings of local coaches who are hanging it up (whether by choice or not) after this season? Possible replacements?

Probably not a surprise that Allen isn't returning given Bath's poor season...any NWC or PCL coaching changes expected?

Who's going to take the Bath job? I hear the Ada coach is a Bath grad.

Since he currently teaches at Ottoville, I really only see him leaving FJ prior to the season if Turnwald resigns or "resigns." Which would be a reasonable jump....currently a talented roster with a lot of talent in the pipeline. Otherwise, I don't think there will be many convenient openings for him (work, home). With him being from OG, I'm sure that would be a job he would look into but I don't see that opening up for a few decades.

From what I know, both coaches are good guys who treat kids with respect.

Can't win a big game? If you don't like the guy or feel you or your kid didn't get a fair shake just say it. You make yourself look idiotic when you post stupid things that are just untrue.

Let's here your playing and coaching record or biggest athletic life achievement.

In 2014 beating Elida in the district final at Liberty Benton sure seemed like a big game. Coming back and beating Defiance in the regional the next week also seemed rather large.

2013
Elida in the district final a regional semi win? Those aren't big games?

Guy lost to the state champs two years in a row in the regional final and played without a starter in one of the two.

There was a time when being a head boys basketball coach was a big deal (even though the pay's never been great), but as they say...times they are a changin'...

Can you think of a time when schools had to beg and plead with people to be coaches of sports teams, especially the higher profile jobs of football or boys basketball?? Teachers don't do it as much anymore because teacher salaries are high enough they don't need supplemental contracts anymore, and we expect our basketball coaches to perform year around anymore, it was never intended that way. The mear fact that we are talking about replacing coach's in March and the next game for most schools is 8 months away.

Excellent points Common Sense!

People just don't understand how coaches play certain kids, run certain sets, use a variety of plays, defenses and offenses to see how many games they want to lose during a year! They put in all that time just to try to lose games. If people only knew, we would have outrage in these communities.

I would like Keith Utendorf to take over Ottoville. He is a teacher there, plus I believe the players would like a change there, according to my sources. It probably will not happen. Just a thought. You should have more than 11-12 players for V/JV, plus if players quit in the middle of the season, something is wrong there.

Paperboy, No. Change of coaching techniques, or how to handle the kids better. I know the history of Ottoville BB, it is difficult to get a good coach, especially a good coach to last long there. You probably know more than me. Is he a good coach? I only hear rumors. Help me out here. What do you think?

^^^ I know very little. I'm not from Putnam County and only know Turnwald by reputation. My question was more of a confirmation as to your previous post, where you seemed to advocate for a change.

I guess I get more than a little tired of people criticizing coaches, and when I see someone from out of the area calling for change it rubs me the wrong way.

Flounder & Paperboy, I know how you feel about TT, Flounder, and I have the highest respect for your thoughts. I know going from 3 to 9 wins is a great improvement. Ottoville should be better than that. As you know coaching at OHS is difficult, especially with the downtown coaches assoc. I hear things from my friends, that are true, supposedly, I guess I am just impatient. I am sorry, I caused so much friction. I will not comment on it again. They need more players to field v/jv, that is one of the reason they only played 20 games. Other schools want both games. Good Luck Coach T. and the Big Green.
