I have a sixth grader interested in learning the shot and discus. Is there any teams he could join this summer to learn how to throw?

There are a couple AAU programs in the area, but not sure how many offer shot and discus. Spencerville has a program called "Striders", and IIRC, they had a couple of boys throwing shot and discus, but can't be sure. I know most, if not all of the kids involved were in the Spencerville system, but it is by no means exclusive. I know a couple of people that were involved with the program and can put you in touch with them if interested.

If you want to learn shot and discus, I'd be contacting Columbus Grove's staff

I agree...I don't know how they do it, but I've been seeing consistently strong weight guys coming out of grove for some time now

Jojo, I'm blanking on the Grove throwing coach's first name ... he's a Maag (Blaine Maag's father). He would be the one to talk to. I'd suggest an email to CG boys coach Chris Groathaus, he could put you in touch. They throw at Grove all summer. If your boy (or girl) wants to learn, that would be a great head start.

Grove's throwing coach is Rick Maag. He holds a throwing camp every summer at Grove.....It's like 3 hours a day for 4 days....They bring back past throwers like Blaine Maag and Cory Meuleman (Both state champions and All-Americans at Ashland University) to help coach. They are definitely the best throwing program around.

I stopped by the meet last night, and watched 5 of their discus throwers throw over 130 feet.....I don't know how they do it.
