Why don't they just make them 23 minutes? They ALWAYS add 3 minutes. Even if the game is postponed until the next day and no bands are there.

Does it really matter.

Maybe it's that way for a reason. It would make sense that the 20 min. Is halftime for the coahces to talk to the team and make adjustments and the 3 min. Is a mandatory warm up time for players. That would explain why it doesn't matter if a band is there or not and seems like a good policy to me tp help prevent injuries and cramps.

That's fine, but what I'm saying is, why not just start the countdown clock at 23 minutes instead of 20?

Or make sure the teams are out and ready for the 2nd half kickoffs when the 20:00 expires. If not, they get a delay of game penalty to start the 2nd half. 20:00 is plenty of time to rest, make coaching adjustments, let the bands play and fans go to the concession stand.

Or... just hear me out about this. We could accept that the OHSAA did something right with the way they allow coaches 20 minutes at halftime to make adjustments and players 3 min. to warm up so there are fewer injuries.
Or we could just keep bitching about a halftime that is perfectly fine the way it is and try to keep fixing things that aren't broken.

The bigger issue is 20 minutes between a JV basketball game and a Varsity basketball game.
Way more of an aggravation than a 20 minute football halftime.

So now a 20 minute warmup for varsity players who just sat through an entire JV game is too inconvenient for fans?
I know it's hard to believe, but halftimes and warmups aren't for the fans. End of story.
