Can't believe the hire at Waynesfield Goshen this year. He looks and coaches like he is in way over his head. Playing favorites instead of playing who deserves to play. The AD and board really screwed up this hire. I understand the coach for the JV Boys applied for the job as well, had coached in the school system for 2 years and didn't get hired which makes no sense to me. #2 makes plays, gets pulled while #11 does nothing and stays in. Makes no sense.

WG, as a coach you need to play the kids that have parents that will buy you some beer. Duh. It's not about winning it's about drinking. I've never met a coach who would take wins over beer. Tell #11 to make sure there's a full cooler ready and she will see more playing time.

I'm sorry that your daughter doesn't play as much as you'd like her to WG.

Sorry, but don't have a daughter playing or a dog in the fight. Just tired of coaches showing favoritism to suck ups and people with certain last names.

Not sure anyone in that district cares......there has been a steady stream of boys and girls athletes leave WG due to sports opportunities elsewhere. Not sure what is going on, but a small school like this cannot afford this trend. I am a big dog myself, but no little doggie in the fight either. THE PROPHET HAS SPOKEN. LJ

WG,
Right or wrong it happens in all walks of life...at the federal and state level it is astonishing to see the level of ineptness.....will be a good life lesson..

Not a single Wednesday post for girls basketball. I thought I would change that.

Let's also consider there is really not a lot of interest in coaching girls basketball. Look around at your area programs?? The best teams have a coach who's probably been there forever, and runs a great program. The bad programs have a constant change of coaches because there just simply not enough interest in having a great program at that school. People care about the program only when their kids are playing, so after 2-3-4 years, they shuffle out.

Now you had coach recently that was run out, he passionately ran the program, but some didn't like his demeanor. Now you've got what you've got. Be careful what you wish for.

Until the day girls sports are perceived by the masses as important as the guys, it won't change.

The coach at WG may well be in over his head, but finding an experienced coach would have been very difficult. Three individuals interviewed for the job. One was hired as our JV Boys Coach, and one was the individual hired for the Varsity Girls. The basketball community was very vocal in wanting a coach who was not affiliated with any member of the team, so our current JV Boys coach may have been met with some pushback because he is related to a player on the team. Common Sense is right...be careful what you wish for.

As for coaches playing who 'deserves' to play instead of favorites. Well, are you at practice every day? Do you see the attendance, effort and attitude displayed at every practice. Do you know of all the other school disciplinary actions that might keep a student/athlete from playing time? I am not saying that the players mentioned above do or do not play because of the reasons listed, just stating that there are a multitude of factors not seen on game night that weigh in on playing time.

LimaJock, I assure you that the majority in this district care. Unfortunately, it is the very loud, and negative, few that are heard over the those who truly support the programs here. I am not sure that our 'steady stream' of opportunity seekers has wider banks than other schools. Of those who have left, many think they are big fish, but in reality have very average fish talent. Very few of those who have left have become as successful as they knew they would be.

This is so well written and true that it should be saved for future use. I wish W-G schools the best.

I agree mostly with what you say. But, these people in most cases would of helped your athletic programs be very successful if they were their AND wearing the Bllue and Gold with pride. Don't have an answer, just pointing out there have been allot of boys and girls leave in the last 4-5 years. This really hurts a small school. LJ

If you want to take that same line of thinking even further, how was the Varsity Football coach hired having 2 cousins on the team this past year. Again a double standard based on the persons last name. That is most ludacris reason for not hiring a coach especially with the football coach having the same situation.

WG, it says the basketball community was very vocal not the football community. If the football community (by the way more people would argue that football is more important than girls basketball, but not me) said do not hire a coach that has relatives on the team it would have happened. Just accept that there will be a lot of loses coming up and you'll be fine.

A lot of times at smaller schools, you aren't going to find an "outsider" with no ties to the community to take a coaching job. Therefore, many times, a person who grew up in the district gets the job. That person more than likely will have some relation in the program(a lot of times, it's why they apply) In a perfect world, the coach should have no problem seperating team and family. We all know the worlds not perfect and sometimes what you ask for doesn't turn out as good as you thought it would.

By my calculations the player in question played for said coach in 8th grade, were there issues then? The issue was not neccasarily because the previous coach was related, it was the blatant favoritism. When 2 players make the same mistake and one gets yanked and chewed and one doesn't that is the problem.

I agree, most times the related coach is harder on the player. I am extremely happy that the previous coach is gone, he was not a good representative of the school or community. However, to say the only reason a coach isn't hired is because he has relation on the team is horrible.

It is obvious after watching JV games that #4 is the player who means more, and does more than anybody out there. I know I don't see practice, but typically players turn it up a notch in games not down. Number 3 is lazy on defense and flat out doesn't hustle yet she is the one that is held out 2 quarters and plays more varsity than #4. Oh, imagine that 3 and 11 are sisters.

What is the difference if a coach is related or a coach allows sucking up to determine who plays.

If these blatant injustices are being done, why not take them to the school board instead of complaining on the 'Corner. While you are there, turn in your application in to become the next coach. That should solve all your problems. Real classy singling out kids on a message board especially when they have nothing to do with how a coach sets his rotation. Again, turn in your application and all will be well in YOUR Tigerland.

I said, "so our current JV Boys coach may have been met with some pushback because he is related to a player on the team." and WG Support said, "However, to say the only reason a coach isn't hired is because he has relation on the team is horrible." Interesting interpretation there...not exactly what I said. Also, and I am not trying to imply that Coach Hollar wouldn't be a good Varsity Girls coach, it is very different to coach a single grade of athletes vs. a high school group of athletes. Comparison not valid.

WG Parents...Ludacris is an American rapper with his own record label called Disturbing tha Peace. Ludicrous is an adjective meaning causing laughter because of absurdity. Which did you mean?
