After two weeks of this basketball season, here are a few takeaways from some local teams so far:

Teams on the move:
1. Ottawa Glandorf (3-0): Averaging 87.7 points per game without their star who is still recovering from an injury. Titans looks to be a favorite in our area for a deep tourney run.
2. Elida (4-0): Have beaten Shawnee, LCC, Spencerville and DSJ. Have not scored over 58 points yet, but their defense is what wins games. Bulldogs will be tough all year!!
3. Versailles (3-0): Their margin of victory combined is 61 points right now. Tigers will score often and be at the top of the MAC at the end.
4. St. Henry (4-0): Shawnee, St. Mary's, Spencerville and Russia isn't exactly tough sledding so far, but St. Henry will make some noise in the MAC and compete near the top.
5. Ottoville (4-0): Margin of victory combined is 108 points and haven't been tested yet. Should be 6-0 after this coming weekend with Ft. Jennings and Spencerville.
6. Lima Senior (3-0): We will see what they are made of this weekend as they host the Kewpee Holiday Classic.

Teams on the decline:
1. Spencerville (0-3): With so many good teams recently, this will be a tough year for the Bearcats. Rebuild year
2. Shawnee (1-2): The Indians will struggle this year but in two years, will be one of the top teams in the WBL. Younger guys will play a huge role this year to gain experience.
3. Celina (0-3): Bellefontaine, Versailles and Bowsher isn't exactly an easy start, but the Bulldogs so far haven't reached their potential. Big weekend ahead for them.

Looks pretty good, except Lima Senor....they are no worse than #2 and probably could be 1A at this point. OT win over Anthony Wayne, a big win over what should be a pretty decent Oregon Clay and an absolute beatdown of the Middies this past weekend.

Good list so far. Also some good basketball to be found in Van Wert county this year. Van Wert is 2-0, Crestview is 1-1, Lincolnview 2-1. with both teams losses coming at the the hands of the cougars, both close.

I agree with you both, thank you for the input! It's almost too early to make these kind of posts, but I love doing it. If Lima Senior is 5-0 after this weekend, i'll put them ahead of OG simply because of their schedule already. I'll say this....when I saw the OG/Libery Benton score I had to take a second look. That's a scary team without Kaufman.

Lima Senior's athleticism will keep them near the top of the list. Cougars will find their way with the experience. 4 returning starters must find a way to play together.
Ottoville and OG have 4-5 guys in double figures every night. Looking at stats, OG has had 6 different scorers in double figures and 2 others have scored 8. One stat that we may be overlooking is OG's defensive pressure. Forcing 21 turnovers a game leading to easy baskets. Elida will continue to get better. Watched replay of St. Henry and they look very deep, saw 4 subs entering on a couple of occasions and with Ahrens, Versailles will be in every game. Can't argue with any of the top 6.

You're right....OG gets a lot of easy baskets off of TO's, but they have also been lights out from 3 pt range so far. Granted, maybe not a great stretch of competition, but 24 3's in a weekend, 14 Friday & 10 on Saturday (against LB who is always pretty good defensively) is a good weekend...no matter who you're playing....and they were over 50% both nights. Not many teams who will be able to handle Dible and Kaufman inside...and also guard the perimeter when OG has 8-9 guys who have the green light to take a 3

To kind of stay on topic...what matchup this year are you guys most looking forward to watching in person, on TV or just to see the outcome?

OG vs Lima Sr on Sat Jan 20th After getting spanked last year at LSH it will be interesting to see how the Titans handle this year at home

The schedule makers didn't do Ottoville any favors over Christmas break. How's this for a 9 day stretch

22 Elida
23 @ St Johns
27 Crestview
30 @ Lincolnview

Elida has Ottoville on the 22nd and then Lima Senior on the 30th, both away. Despite have 5 seniors starting, I think the Bulldogs will struggle in both of those games and come away with losses.

Archbold @ OG Dec. 23 should be a good one. The Blue Streaks return almost everyone from a team that went to state last season.

Ottoville and Crestview should be a great game. Any chance Kaufman will be back for the Archbold game? What would that do the the chemistry? OG seems to be clicking on all cylinders. I realize he is the reigning WBL player of the year, but what can they expect from him?

Not until WBL season gets into high gear.....You can expect him to start slowly building to the 15-17ppg, 10 reb player he was before....he'll resume being the leader and should lead the Titans back to the regional for the umpteenth time. Back to D3 might actually hurt them

Pandora Gilboa makes an early season statement in defense of their PCL championship with a 48- 35 win tonight over Kalida.

Wildcat fans. We just played two quality teams, PG and Archbold. Compare the two. Who better.

Elida will be a tough team to beat in the WBL with them arguably having the best player in the conference. OG’s season and more importantly post season hinges on Kaufman’s health. Dible is a great inside threat but if they can add a healthy Kaufman with the three point shooting they are looking at regionals and beyond this year.

Crestview is going to be super good in a few more weeks once they get the football legs switched over to basketball legs.

Hope your are right, right now it's silly fouls and careless ball handling. Hard to win against a good team like that.

HMMMMMM....makes sense now. Jeremy's comments in the basketball preview-
"We have experience in many areas, but the area of growth we are most anticipating is the space between our ears." They will find it. Cougars are going to win quote a few games this year.
