I was at the game & a shot clock really wouldn't have helped the score. Both teams played aggressive half-court defense (with Waterford extending full court as well), but neither team adjusted its offense as the game wore on. Both teams were going to run what got them there. St. Wendelin's press breaker was embarrassing & Waterford had no consistent shooting. Quickness of shots wasn't really an issue.

Waterford was 10-53 (18.9%) from the floor, with 12 turnovers.
St. Wendelin was 10-23 (43.5%) from the floor with 27 turnovers.

Solid defense by both, but a very ugly and offensive-inept game.
Thank you for the explanation, still need a shot clock in Ohio.

No way you get a shot clock in girls basketball - if you think you have bad basketball now (and there is more bad, than good generally speaking) - add a shot clock and watch the quality of play get worse, and good teams begin to beat bad teams by 100 points frequently. I don't think this is the answer.

exactly what postplayer said, the discrepancy between really good and really bad teams seems to be a lot larger on the girls side of HS basketball. What may be best is a running clock in the 2nd half of games once the lead gets over 30 pts.

We have the running clock (40 pts) and 30 second shot clock in CA for over 40 years. Shot clock for boys also for almost as long. You probably are right though. If you cannot run and gun & shoot threes, you probably cannot compete. I guess it is whatever you like. As a referee for many, many years, I preferred the shot clock. Thanks

Are scores higher in CA because of the shot clock?

Interesting that when people see the 29-27 final score, they automatically feel a shot clock is needed. Anyone who watched the game could attest that there was no need for a shot clock in this particular game. Neither team attempted to hold the ball. It was just a very poorly played game offensively by both teams.

Totally agree, no shot clock needed in this game. They shot, they missed, or turned it over.

I took my daughter to the game and thankfully it took her a while to eat the pretzel and dippin dots. That kept her occupied during the record breaking game.

No matter how you look at it though the Waterford Lady Cats are the champs and I want to wish them a big congrats from Continental. I sat by some of their fans and if Waterford was on my way home I would have taken them up on the invite to go and celebrate with them.
