Defiance 8
Bellevue 0

Hicksville 5
Miller City 1

This makes 8 Defiance County teams at state in the last 6 years, with at least one in every season since 2010(2 in 2013 and 2015). 4 for Tinora, 3 for Defiance, and now Hicksville.

Poland Seminary 2
Watterson 0

Defiance 8
Big Walnut 1

Poland Seminary vs. Defiance tomorrow at 4 for the D2 title. If my research is correct, Defiance is trying to become the first school in Ohio since Lakewood St. Ed in 1998 to win state titles in basketball AND baseball in the same year.

Defiance joins Lakewood St. Edward (1998) and Cincinnati Lincoln Heights (1970) to win both basketball and baseball in the same year. There may be others, but I am sure about these two.

Todd Walker tweeted that Defiance was the 7th school to have won basketball and baseball in the year. Man, I could get used to these overnight trips to Columbus for state titles...

I just did a manual search of the OHSAA records, so I could have missed something. I have come up with 5, maybe 6, schools to win both basketball and baseball the same year as follows: 1969 - Columbus East, 1970 - Cincinnati Lincoln Heights, 1973 - Cincinnati Elder, 1998 - Lakewood St. Edward, 2015 - Defiance. It lists Lockland Wayne with basketball and Lockland winning baseball in 1955. It may be the same school. In any event, it has been a great year for the Defiance Bulldogs. They might have to send someone down to Mercer County to check out trophy case designs.

St Henry won state in football and basketball in same year. I think Marion Local and Delphos St John may have too.

Sorry.... I typed in wrong category. I changed it. I was listing schools to win both basketball and baseball the same year. In the football - basketball category the OHSAA website lists 3 schools to win both in the same year: Marion Pleasant 1972-1973, St. Henry 1990-1991, and Cleveland Benedictine 1996-1997.
