I heard from various sources that this is it for Skip Baughman Stadium. Next year they will play at their new school in a stadium with alll weather turf similar to what is in Wapakoneta. Possiblity of hosting playoff games may have been a deciding factor in that decision. In the great scheme of things it probably is for the best. The old field always had a tendency to severely flood when rains hit.

St. Marys Roughriders of the Western Buckeye League.

(Couldn't get the link to post but the athletic complex discussion and the question of being able to fund it was part of a school board candidate debate reported in the St. Marys Evening Leader on 10/18/2011)

I remember going down 66 to New Bremen on a Friday night when the battle of the Lake was taking place (St. Mary's vs Celina). What a crowd! Always wanted to see a game there.....

What kind of capacity will the new one have? What did the old one have? This is more good for NW Ohio teams and moreso West Central teams when playoffs come around.

It says 4,200....looks like a great facility for tournament and stuff...just seems weird for st. marys, because with a ten lane track the seats at the top of the stands look soooooo far away..

But it looks like a very nice facility

I heard a from a friend at work, from St. Marys, they have removed the dirt fron the inside the track for the installation of the turf. Not sure what, if anything else has been done.

Heard it was a done deal. Just a small matter of raising several million dollars to do it.

That shouldn't be too hard......given St. Mary's economy.....although the lake is down some.

Work has begun on the new stadium. A lot of dirt has been taken out and they're putting in the drainage as we speak. Safe to assume this is the last game at the tracks.

I'm just guessing it's going inside where the current track is.

Yeah, it's inside the track.

Not sure if it'll be done by next August or not, now that I think about it. I'm sure the field and stands will be there. Not sure what their plans are for concessions, restrooms, press box, locker rooms, etc. so it's kinda hard to say if they'll push to have it ready for next year or if they'll take their time and play one more year it Skip Stadium. The big deal was that they didn't have money to do it yet, and went ahead and started it. Not a good idea in these economic times.
