Wow, how sad! 4 schools combined and that is all that showed up. The OSHSAA getting exactly what they deserve! They have neither the will or resources to keep these basketball factories from hijacking what used to be a wonderful experience! Let's just eliminate all rules and regulations and quit pretending! Unethical coaches and programs are ruining the concept of true competition between schools where kids grow up dreaming of them and their community classmates of playing in St. John's arena! Yea St. John's were at one time was a halfway honest competition!

6700 ain’t gonna get it boys......they might get 5500 for the second session which puts 1st day attendance around 12,500, which wouldn’t have filled St Johns back in the day....they might want to think about moving this back to Dayton or possibly Ohio Dominican

In fact the OHSAA wrestling tournament draws better than this.....like they say in Denmark, “da fish rots from the head down!”

10,000+ for the D2 games? Well I was wrong about that! .....don’t know where they found ‘em but more power....tomorrow should see a great turnout for the D4’s

D2, 4 public schools who have fan bases that actually care! Schools that probably do it the right way. D4 will probably do really well. Same reason!

Do private school kids wrestle better than public school kids? If so, hopefully OHSAA can do something about it!!!!!!!1!!!!!

Yesterday’s attendance saw the D4 at 11,200+ while the D1 shows just a tick over 12,000....so the total attendance so far looks to be just a shade under 40,000 for the first 8 games....... for every session so far they have been selling 100 level seats at the ticket window right up until game time. In fact for a few of the games it look like you could almost get a seat on the bench. Other than the D4 final I can see many records set for lowest attendance ever

In looking through a previous state championship program it looks like this year they will set a record for attendance futility. If they draw an average of 10,000 fans to each game today which is highly unlikely they will only be 120,000+ total fans less than just 15 years ago. You’ll have to go back to when there was just two divisions to find attendance figures this low. It seems that whatever they’ve been doing is working out real well for them.

A robust 7700+ for the D3 final and approximately 9500 for the D2 final brings us to about 57,000 total attendance with two games to go. This should make for a very interesting conversation during the OHSAA summer conference held back in Hawaii in June.

9108 for the D4 final..........unless they pack the Schottenstein with 24,567 fans next game, Jerry & his boys will have done the impossible!......the lowest attendance since before the OHSAA went to 3 divisions back in 1971... mind you, at that time there were only 6 games played....hats off to a job well done....I cannot wait until next year to see what they have planned.....zoooom

You're bizarrely obsessed with attendance and trashing the OHSAA. Why don't you go down to Columbus and talk to Jerry Snodgrass and tell him your ideas on how to pack the Schott. I'm sure he would appreciate your input.

Bobby.....so, do you approve of the direction of the OHSAA.....if you do then I think you are in the minority....the OHSAA has butchered the state basketball tournament solely for the purpose of gouging the public to make more money.....it has totally backfired and has actually helped the fans as far as getting good seats...only problem is fans got fed up with how they were getting $hit on , they said the hell with it...OHSAA ruined a good thing!!!!

When was it that good? Attendance has been decreasing yearly and there's nothing anyone can do about it. School fans have always gotten crappy seats. I don't know the answer. Who does? Any suggestions? I'm just going to delight in falling attendance.

Easy Bobby! He is just speaking for 90 percent of all the dedicated High School Basketball fans. The people who remember when this event was a must attend classic. They remember the caravans of cars heading to Cbus. Getting there early to find tickets. Walking around restaurants asking if anybody had tickets. Where High School attendance on Thursday and Friday dropped. We remember all the High School kids milling around. It was an event so many kids and adults looked forward to all year! So Sad, those days are gone.

I'm one of the 90%. I remember those days and miss those days. But they're not coming back any time soon, if ever, and it's not the OHSAA's fault. But the constant trashing of the OHSAA gets old.

Bobby, I'd like to get your ideas on how to get girls basketball watchable again. Man there's a lot of bad, unwatchable girls basketball in the area.

I'm watching the Div I boys finals and both teams are in the 30's in the 4th quarter.

There's a lot of tough basketball to watch overall, boys and girls. It would help to clean up the game, stop the brutally physical play. Coaches need to coach in practice and then let the kids play. Stop micromanaging games. Girls need to play pickup games, nothing organized. Organized play puts kids in positions: rebounder, passer, shooter. Everybody needs to be able to do all of those including score. I've noticed DSJ is teaching girls skills starting really early and showcasing those kids at halftime of varsity games. They seem excited and having fun. As long as they're having fun they'll keep playing.
Basketball is meant to be athletic, free flowing and offensive. Right now it's plodding, way too physical and far too defensive. it's not fun.
I never played, never coached. Just my thoughts. Just want to see basketball fun and exciting again.

The only ones that can help in this area are the referees. I was at a game where it was so physical that the refs forgot to call fouls until it was almost a fistfight.

Then at the end when a team was trying to foul to get the clock to stop they called tap fouls!!! Give me a break...a foul is a foul regardless of when it occurred.

I was watching a show on ESPN about the North Carolina State Championship in the early 80's. Talk about watching fun basketball. Players could actually use their skills to drive the lane and not get hammered back to the stone age. This is the main reason why teams launch 30 3 pointers in a game anymore. They can't physically get to the basket because the player with the ball is getting the ******* beaten out of him.

FYI, the wrestling tournament attendance has steadily increased and this year the finals was close to a sellout..... The problem started 15 to 20 years ago with the proliferation of AAU. The OHSAA was ill prepared for this new phenomenon and now that the cows are out of the barn they have no way of getting those “cattle dogs” to herd them back....... I have no interest and watching a bunch of thugs in D3 and D4 play against the Kalida and coldwater’s of the world....The OHSAA allowed that to happen and ye shall reap what you sow....
