I think the other thing you have to consider, and this is strictly a coaching decision. You run your two best in each even in every meet, you'll have 15-20 kids on your track team, that's it. You spread the wealth over different events, you can keep 30-40 kids tied up in track. That's the difference. Not obviously that doesn't work in football because you can't schedule 12-15 JV games and another 12 freshman games. Track is a sport where you can get ALOT of kids involved. Sadly at a lot of schools, you can't even get kids to go out. They could letter in track for 4 years and not be very good, but it's just not worth it for many kids.
