That's maybe the craziest thing I've read on here...the two have nothing to do with each other. That being said, Ottoville's CYO teams are awful and have been for quite a while. Kids playing CYO isn't hurting their HS team

I would normally agree that cyo doesn't hurt, but Ottoville is one of the smallest schools in the state. So having multiple intramural teams probably doesn't help their school's program numbers problem much.

If CYO is an issue how does Ft Jennings survive? I think they are the smallest school in the State.

Ft Jennings doesn't play boys CYO....they did play girls, but not sure if they still do

Their basically the same size, the difference this year is 3 students. Ottoville Boys 38 Girls 43 Ft.Jennings Boys 43 Girls 35.

The village of Ft. Jennings is half the size of the village of Ottoville and the schools are roughly the same size. Sometimes this world doesn't make sense.

stud, not to change sports but I went out for dinner this evening with some friends from Green country and they are saying some baseball kids are not playing now. They also said that kids are being begged to play just to have a team. Is this correct? If so what is going on down there?

I wish the kids would realize that there's still a lot of fans that enjoy watching them play. And I might add that our girls went 2-20 this season and I still got to 15 of their games. Why? Because I support them win or lose.

Lack of numbers. That's it. I think 10 baseball players. With only 38 boys in the high school it's kinda hard to get 15 kids to go out. With the new restrictions on pitching going to be tough with 10 players

Per the Ohio Dept of Education and the OHSAA on February 10, 2017, Ottoville has 46 boys, grades 9-11 as of October 31, 2016. That would put them around 60 boys in the high school. Your 38 number is from 2014, the last time the OHSAA redid divisions, and is for grades 9-11 in October 2014. The school page you used has not been updated.

ok 60. Still hard to get a quarter of them to go out. Soccer. Basketball. Baseball. Hard to get numbers. Hopefully next few years we can have full JV games in everything.

So, maybe it isn't the coaches for the lack of support from the athletes.....sounds to me that kids are using the coaches as a scapegoat and are to lazy to give a crap about playing sports!!!!!!

The numbers issue is becoming so wide-spread that it even affects the not-so-small schools...and with multiple sports. I don't think Bluffton girls had a full JV squad this year...heard the same with Celina (D2!). Holgate girls & MC girls; neither played a full JV schedule...small schools, I know. On the baseball side, how many PCL schools will have JV teams this year? Kids (and parents) just don't want to put the time into playing sports anymore...too much work. And it appears they really don't want to play if they aren't starting

Why is the kids always to blame? Seriously? When a college team doesn't perform the coach gets fired. When a NBA team doesn't perform the coach gets fired. Just lay off the kids.

If a coach treats the team or an individual like a pile of turds, why would you want to put yourself through that. Better off going to library and getting an academic scholarship then having a coach who thinks he's the greatest thing on earth treat you/team like turds.

Flounder hit the nail on the head here. Everyone wants to turn the coaches into the bad guy. Really, it's a problem with the students. I feel that a lot of athletes in today's game have trouble taking coaching and have very little respect for authority. If a coach is upset with an athlete or yells at an athlete, the first thing to do is quit.
