They definitely are looking to the future(not saying they are not trying to win it this year) with the signing of Cuba defect, Aroldis Chapman. This kid sounds like he is the real deal.

This signing is such a departure from what they have done the last few years that I was totally shocked. They seem to always be in "building from within" mode. Maybe they will win another world series in our lifetime

Their a year or two away from making some noise in the playoffs, as long they don't do what they've done in the past and trade off all of their young talent.

Whatever services ranks all the prospects and such (Baseball America or Baseball Prospectus or something?) is constantly rating the Reds farm system as one of the "most loaded" in MLB.

That "Baseball America", are they based in Cincinnati? Are they the same guys that say Notre Dame football recruits in the top 10 every year?

Think about it - Reds trade away their top MLB players yearly, so they just stock their farm system. Pretty much the same reason the Marlins always seem to have such a stacked farm system.

The REDS farm system is very loaded and ranked very very high in MLB.... that still doesn't guarantee that these players will develop into bigtime MLB players... some guys are lifetime AAA studs

Do you remember back in the 80's when the Reds were trying to decide which shortstop to keep....Kurt Stilwell or Barry Larkin. Thank God for the KC Royals who made a trade offer for Stilwell and the Reds accepted.

I think the Reds have a chance in that division this year. The Cardinals are the class but you never know. 85 wins can win it sometimes and a healthy for once Reds team could challange.

The Cincinnati Reds and free-agent shortstop Orlando Cabrera have agreed to a one-year, $3 million contract, MLB.com has reported, citing an unnamed source.

The deal, which MLB.com reported includes a $3 million option with a $1 million buyout for 2011, follows a one-year, $4 million contract Cabrera played with in 2009.

Cabrera, a 12-year veteran with a .275 career average, hit .284 last season with the Athletics and Twins. Oakland traded him to Minnesota shortly before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline.

better offensively by a mile than Janish but we may lose a little on the D side. should be an interesting year and at least they made some moves. i don't think it will be enough to wind the division but maybe sneak out a wild card if they are lucky.

Reds also traded Adam Rosales and Willy Taveras to the A's for Aaron Miles and that famous PTNL. I'm glad to see Taveras go.....
