Did St. Mary's ever finish their field? I went by it, but also noticed it's a bit detached from the school or appeared so. How does one manage to get back to it?

So, I'm guessing it wasn't finished or what is the status of it?
Personally, it's pretty much moronic to build a stadium in this day and age without turf, so I can't fault them there. Now if they didn't have funding, that's a different can of worms in terms of starting the project.

Board figured the community would pony-up close to $2 million to finish the project or maybe that was including the turf... not sure. They, the board, wanted it on site but would not have all sports on site. Didn't make fiscal sense since they had a stadium that could have been renovated for much less and still very nice. They need lights , seating, restrooms, locker rooms, parking, etc...to finish. Some day it'll probably get done.

I'd say they are in a better spot than some others that have made the move. They have the most expensive part taken care of in putting the field and track down. Fiscally, most of these schools have to do it in stages. Now, I know they probably weren't trying to do that, but I believe Delphos's field(which isn't turf) is getting revamped in a 3 phase project. Lima Stadium ran into the same problem with funding and they didn't have a visitor's side for quite a while after getting their turf down.
Does anybody have any details or photos on what they are trying to build there in terms of seating and facilities? I don't know how that is accessible back there, but if there needs to be a paved section and/or large amount of concrete for facilities, obviously that makes things prohibitively more expensive. They should be alright in the long run though, but the team not fairing well lately obviously hurts in terms of sales/booster aid.

Not quite Jeffcat...Lima Stadium had turf a few years before the eastside stands were condemned. They then tore the east side out and yes it was a couple years with seating only on the west side before stands were installed on vistor side again. Somewhat similar situation , but at least this was not a "planning" issue like St Marys field.

The field/track is probably the single most expensive part for them. It's not a matter of ease...I'm just saying it's taking out probably the biggest chunk of money they will spend in terms of funding issues depending on how much concrete they are going to blow through. I'm guessing the prep, turf, and track all together was well over the $1 million mark.

Looks like a pretty nice set up to me other than the concern of some bottlenecking in terms of traffic, but nothing severe. They do have quite a bit in terms of prep, concrete, and paving to do though. That will be some pretty significant dollars to finish with that setup. All in all though, it should be good to go in a few years.

They could just plant corn around the field and call it the field of dreams. Definitely a unique experience going out of bounds.
