Wrestler of the Week

Numerous choices…any of the 7 Champs at LCC Invite…you can even throw into play Lovejoy as he lost to a state Champ in a great match…

I’m going with Zach Wilson this week as he knocked off a State Placer Sandlin to win his championship along with still being undefeated.

Interview

Interview with Coach Mike Abbey from Allen East. Coach Abbey did a great job talking about his Wrestlers. I look forward in having him back.

NWC Teams looking to finish top of the board are Jefferson who will be strong at the upper weights with McConnahea, Miller(#1 Brakeman) and Wessel/Ketchum. Grove brings power low and high with Kleman, Keysor, Windau and Shaffer. Allen East will go out fighting with its big 7 looking to all place with Conyers(#2 Brakeman) and Lovejoy top dogs at their weights with Baker and McAdoo a shot at theirs. Spencerville is gonna try and knock some people off with Bockey and Shumate looking to open some eyes. Lincolnview has one to watch in Markward. Paulding has Deatrick, Shrider and Hanenkratt.

Deepest Weight classes to watch are 138 and 182 as they may be the deepest.

The Tournament is at the New Gym in Columbus Grove..Awesome experience…

Celina / St. Mary’s / Shawnee @ Bath – Bath 2-0 / Shawnee 1-1 / St. Mary’s 1-1 / Celina 0-2

Lima Bath 36, St. Marys Memorial 34 / Lima Bath 39, Lima Shawnee 34
Lima Shawnee 41, Celina 33 / St. Marys Memorial 37, Celina 32…Meeks being out prevented match of night with McDermitt and him. Bath took the night in the final match in each Dual.

WBL Standings

Wapak 9-0, Bath 8-1, Elida 7-2, St. Mary’s 6-3, Celina 4-5, Defiance 4-5, Shawnee 3-6, Van Wert 3-6, Kenton 1-8, OG 0-9

WBL Champs

2011 - Wapak 2010 - Bath Wapak 2009 - Bath

Returning WBL Champs – JT Martin 2X, T. Plaugher, N. Pauff, J. Caulkins, C. McDermitt,

M. Klausing, T. Smith and H. Hengstetler.

Just a little to think of…

The WBL will be interesting this year as the top 3 are close. Seeding is going to decide a lot.

Wapak - solid throughout lineup- Martin, Valentine, Holden, A. Brown plus more…They are probably the Favorite as they come in Undefeated.

Bath – Not sure where match ups will or will not hurt them. They are solid up and down. Not the usual guarantees in Line up but great matchups of solid kids. Meeks is best known but but Bath will need more to step up. Bible needs a good day. Does Meeks go 32 or 38?

Elida – missing 2 weight classes out of the gate will hurt. They lost twice so they need some help from Bath and others as well. Pauff, Dunlap, Green, I. Dukehart, Smith and Carroll need a good day to stay in contention.

Misc…. - Shawnee is strong in lower Weights. Look for Kuhlman, Plaugher, Plaugher, McDermitt and Miller to do some damage.

Defiance is a nice Dark horse to think about shaking things up. McCarthy, Castillo with some other help will like to make some problems for the top dogs. 132 and 138 just like the NWC are the weight classes to really watch. Biggest question is where does Meeks go to give Bath Team the best chance to pull out on top. 132 is loaded with Pauff, McDermitt, Klausing, 138 has possibly Dorsch, Castillo, Valentine, Miller. It will be interesting at the seeding Saturday.

Wapak could have 4-5 Champs along with Shawnee with 3-5. 182 and 220 will be competitive to watch right after 132 and 138.

Below is just some names on where they wrestled this year.

106 – Escobedo Def, Chancey Memorial, Osborn Ken, Martin

Sectional Preview / Interview

DIII – 39 total area kids are top ranked heading into their Districts. Leading the way is the top dawg in Curtis Miller who is projected 220 Champ. Conyers is looking at a 2 ranking. Wilson, Laney, Mansfield, Van Vleet and Gremling are in top 5.

DII - 4 of the top 10 teams in the state will be at the Marion Districts to include top Team Graham. You have 8 kids ranked #1 in their respected weight classes with 6 being from Graham and 3 are named Jordan. Iaasic(12)Bo(11)Micah(10). Our area sends 7 top ranked kids with McDermitt the highest at 3rd. This now has become the toughest District in the State in my opinion. When you have Graham, Padua, Oak Harbor, Wauseon, Toledo Central Catholic, Lexington, Sandusky Perkins to just name a few…if you just use Brakemans numbers showing placers from the districts, adding Graham into the equation now , this district will produce a whopping 60+ percent State placers.
