I know that there are quite a few HS girls teams, but especially in the Findlay area, they are just rec teams developing into HS Varsity Teams. How are things going in this area of soccer, or are they going at all?

I could be wrong, but I believe lady knights are playing LB's JV team.

yes, the VB Girls team played the LB Varsity or JV team. They won, 2-1, which is always something to brag about knowing the VB LB rivalry. I believe it was the Varsity because they came around the Varsity field in the pit and were looking for the girls team, but I could be wrong.

Good Luck Lady Knights with the rest of your season! thumbup1.gif

Sorry guys and gals but it was the LB JV and not the varsity,,,,,,VB's team could not light a match to LB's varsity and thats not bragging but a simple fact....LB Varsity is tough! Good Luck to the VB program and hopefully the state will get above 500 teams this next year to create 3 divisions.....

I think once these club teams like VB start acting like a varsity program....play will improve. When you don't practice like a varsity squad, it shows. Give VB time and they will look as good as LB.

Lets just hope that the girls team goes varsity faster than the boys did. Swaisgood started the team back in the early eighties and they didn't get to go varsity until 1997

They may be pushing for it...but it is the higher ups that allow it to happen. Cory girls went straight to varsity this year without messing with fall club team.

Van Buren School Board has a mandatory 3 years before a team can turn from club to varsity to make sure that there is an interest. Its a good rule, but I think that as soon as those 3 years are up, there will be a girls' varsity team.

I believe that it is 3 SEASONS, not 3 years...and then it can become a varsity sport. The school board made that promise, so they should stick with it. I think if they go back on their word, there are enough people that are backing girls soccer as a varsity sport, that there will be heck to pay. Has anyone seen the numbers for the upcoming girls? There is a HUGE interest for both boys and girls for soccer at VB. There are some great kids coming up and there will be some strong, strong years of soccer for VB.

The girls team has great potential, but if the boys team has tiny freshman classes like this year, VB's in trouble... There were an expected 9 freshman to come out for the boys team, and we ended up with 4. Don't get me wrong, its an extremely talented class, but with varsity sports developing like Golf at VB, soccer players are moving away from soccer and more towards other activities. VB, unfortunately, doesn't really take pride in the soccer program unless you are a part of it or good friends with a player. It really is a shame. Hopefully the upcoming classes will change that.

I don't know if you can call the only VB sport with a state title "developing..." however, it comes down to the players on the team to get younger players to come out for the team.

We had players come out for the team. They signed up in May or June, then disappeared. School wasn't in session anymore, so people didn't see each other everyday, and it's hard to pressure someone you can't find. VB is rebuilding, last year and this year. This year is more of a team than last year, but we haven't peaked at our potential yet. BTW, VB soccer is a prestigous dynasty, but they have the state title from 03, so no-one but the coaches (Swaisgoods and M Brown) were a part of the state-bound team. We don't have those experienced players any more. But, I would like to see another team go to the regional finals or farther this year or next...

there was no state title that year... we made it to the semis and lost 2-1 agianst Gates Mills, you of course know that I was on the team bench for that game... doubt it? Marshall Plough ahd 2 goals for Hawken and Julio Battirolla had Vb's lone goal with 17 seconds left to go in Lexington... but that's not the point... the point is that I know at the parent's meeting, Swaisgood hands out the numbers of people who are interested...so I don't want to hear that you can't talk to them... talk to your friends who haven't played since third grade, whatever... I don't want to hear that you can't get players, and last year VB shouldn't have been in that position last year, there were six players on that team, who were on the state semi team, and Matt Brown coached the team last year but was a junior on that state semi team, plus, like you said, the Swaisgoods were there.

True. BTW, all my friends that are still around here and played with me since the third grade are on the team. They're called the 9 member Sophmore Class, the biggest on the team. I hope this changes, but we'll see. Meanwhile:

Nice try, Lady Knights, for hard fought loss to Allen East at 4-2. Good luck and bring home a win at LB on Sat. at 1:00

Look at that state semi team though... look how many seniors that team had... but yes... good job girls club team, even in the loss... they need to start playing and practicing every day, they are not ever going to go varsity... but they are well on thier way...

VB Lady Knights vs LB JV: Loss. 3-0. I was at that game and the Knights just weren't with it Sat. According to them, it was the worst they ever played... I see some serious potential though in a lot of these girls.

Chris, I don't think that you are allowed to practice more than 2x a week as a rec team. They need to turn varsity b4 they start practicing every day. Also, I don't think it'll be long b4 there is a cry for the team to go varsity. They are supported by a lot of people, and I don't think the school could say no. Swaisgoods aren't allowing girls onto the varsity team, whether that policy is backed by the school or not. Give it another year or two, and there will be a girls varsity team. But once that happens, where will they practice???
