I don't know how much Versailles will be affected, but Jon Richard sprained his ankle VERY bad Friday against New Knoxville. It was swelled up the size of a softball.

I know that he really started to play well in Legion last year come state tourny time. I think that if he stays off of it and doesn't try to rush back he'll be able to be back easy. But if he its more serious than a sprain they could be in some trouble, hes a great talent.

New Bremen, well, just is not that good. I know that their freshman class is really athletic and that Spencer Rohr is a really good pitcher, but how much can you rely on untested freshman?

Spencer Rohr isn't even playing baseball this year. Had surgery on his arm last week and is out until Fall.

I hadn't heard about that. Could damper the pitching staff just a little if he would have pitched like he did in JH. I have been completely corrected on my NB post now on every subject I brought up. Guess I got that one wrong completely.

For anyone who cares, Coldwater finished as the State ACME Runners-Up again this past ACME season.

According to my New Bremen source, Spencer had surgery on his arm when he did so he wouldn't miss any baseball. How about some conformation from Dot Shot???

When we play Bremen in basketball a couple weeks ago, I'm pretty sure Spencer was playing for the reserve team.

You need a better source then. He's out for the HS baseball season according to his doc. May be able to play Acme this summer -- possibly, but the only definite target is football in the Fall.

Tiggerball, he did play the weekend Versailles and Bremen played. The surgery was the week after if you read my message. So you are both correct and irrelevant at the same time.

Sorry Voice, didn't know you were the know all about NB. Since you know all that stuff I want to know what you think of their team this year? I don't mean any disrespect, I've just heard that he'll be back and was wondering from Dot Shot if it was true. He seemed to have a wealth of knowledge about the NB team.

The Voice is picking NB 3rd or 4th behind Minster and Coldwater, close to SH.

Minster returns key players with the Heitbrinks, Boeke, Bernhold, Inskeep, Baumer (possibly 2 Baumers), and look out for Fullenkamp hitting the ball well up off the JV team.

Coldwater kids grow up with the leather in their hands, and Slavik and Klenke will lead them.

I know SH graduated some key players, but they are ALWAYS good. Look at the record over the past 10 years. They'll come up with players to fill those holes.

NB looks to finish near the top with most players back, including a talented junior class -- Wendel and Moeder will keep them in most ballgames.

Don't count out Versailles -- yes, they graduated a ton, but they have a sophomore class that is probably best in the MAC for their class, led by Zach Richard's brother Jon, but he isn't the only one. They won many a tournament thoughout the entire area coming up through the years leading up to HS.

Marion and DSJ will both win when their aces are on the mound, but on the other game of the week they'll be more vulnerable. But they'll have a say who wins the championship, because Johnson or Luebke will beat one of the contending teams in the last few weeks in a 2-1 type duel.

I pretty much agree with the above post. Fort Recovery and New Bremen are pretty even talent wise. The difference there is that NB has much better coaching. Two years in a row now-the FR coach has started freshmen on varsity when there were established upper classmen sitting the bench. Both years the kids struggled defensively and the one thing FR can not afford is to give teams runs. They are not that good offensively. Galdeen graduated and he lead the team in just about every offensive catagory and so did Trobridge who supplied what little power they had.

Jon is back on the basketball court so he'll be alright for baseball. It scared the crap out of me when he got hurt. It was a bad sprain.

for the SCL Loramie is of course the favorite.
then russia or anna..
botkins..
then either houston or jackson.. but watch for some sophmore and freshman to step up and fill some varsity spots with some young pitchers in Josh Cornette (sophmore) then pitching and catching in Joe Gordon (freshman)
then fairlawn

You actually thinks Firks is a good coach, remember he used to coach at FR and sucked. Two years ago the freshman were Bobby Rammel and Clint Tobe and Bobby recieved second team and clint received HM. Last year Toby Metzger started because Scott Hein was injured and if u think Toby is a poor player then ur retarded. The reason upper classmen have sat the bench is because their skills were weaker than the starters. And right now i am laughing in ur face because if u think that Steve Trobridge led in offensive stats ur crazy, he was a DH, he hit only one homerun and was below 300 the entire season the only thing he led in was HBP.

Frind,
You must be a Fort Recovery High School player that is still bitter about the loss to New Bremen last year in the Sectional. To say he sucked shows your smarts.

Coach Firks was never the H.C. at Fort Recovery. How could he have sucked? He has changed the mentality of our team and school when it comes to baseball in the last three years. We always enjoy his stories about playing in the State Tournament while at Coldwater and the Division II College World Series while at Ashland. You don't win Back-To-Back Sectionals, a District Title, a District Runner-Up and a Regional Semi-Finalist by having bad players and coaches.

frind-yeah I do think Firks is a very good coach. FR was severely outcoached in the tournament loss to NB last year.

I meant that Trobridge graduated too-not that he lead any offensive catagories too. He sure seemed to be coaches favorite though didn't he?

yeah-Bobby Rammel was 2nd team All MAC-only because most of the coaches are friends with his dad. He did nothing to deserve that-and he played while Galdeen sat the bench. With the year Galdeen had last year-can you say Rammel deserved to be playing ahead of him the year before??? That was favoritism plain and simple.

Now tell me what makes you think Toby Metzger is so good. I will admit that he may be a good pitcher some day-but he cost FR games with his shoddy defense behind the plate (including the tournament game)and he batted a whopping .189. Yeah-that's all star material there! Scott was hurt early-but after he recovered-he should have been catching.

2004- First winning season in few years. #1 seed in the sectional but lost to Cory Luebke and Marion Local.

2005- District Champs

2006- District Runner-ups with a team that mainly consisted of Sophomores.

You cannot deny the success that Firks has brought to the program.
