I just had to get in on what is one of the longest running threads in Rocketcorner history. I remember a tall coach back in the 60's wearing a yellow turtleneck and green jacket who liked long practices and was known to intimidate the refs. Hope the Ottoville folks can figure this out and just let the coach alone. In these small towns with graduating classes of 35 kids or so it is hard to put a competitive team on the floor year in and year out.
I'd have transferred out of there. No desire to put up with that.

Great comment, but, times are achanging, to quote Bob Dylan. Parents do not like their kids treated certain ways, trust me, I was a coach and teacher for many years. Now you have to be careful what you do and say. I played for that coach, he was tough, but fair. Great role model for me, and many of my friends.

Well the one kid is 6'5-6'6 who has dunked the ball on numerous occasions his 8th grade year and the other one may not quite be 6'5. Maybe 6'2-6'3? I could be wrong on that kid but either way. Yes both are very good ball players. For their size at the junior high level they are good ball handlers and shooters. They also have some other good players as well. Ottoville should have a real nice team for the next 4 years.

Or the desire to be part of the solution.

2 kids are a definite 6'5"". Thorbahn is a shooter and will see varsity. The other may see limited minutes but needs to bulk up. He's a dunker tho

Well, hopefully they pan out. A lot of times I've seen and heard about teams who had high hopes and aspirations and they din't materialize. The stars really have to align to win a State Title or even get there ....

Coach Turnwald's career record at Ottoville 45-91

Coach Utendorf's career record at FJ 24-70

ha .. Not sure anyone did. But saying "stars really have to align to win a state title" sounds a lot better than the "stars really have to align to get to district finals" ....

I think a group of parents at ottoville did. They think their kids are the best and it was just the coach holding them back this whole time.
Numbers and talent may be up next year but the parents and administration are still going to be the same old Ottoville.

Listen people.....just because there is a new sheriff in town doesn't mean Ottoville will make it to state.....I have heard also that Utendorf isn't real mild mannered in the locker room.......so some of those parents who promote wussifucation may be in for a surprise...mucho talent coming at Ottoville, but who will these parents blame if nothing falls into place......good luck to Coach Utendorf....you will need it and then some!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Flounder buddy, who's talking about state? And I think some people are being a little too harsh on the Ottoville community about these coaches.

See that's the problem. The key words in your post is "I think". You don't even know for sure and throwing stuff like that out there. And who cares if parents are little overconfident in their kids. Since when is that a bad thing? Look around, it happens. And what exactly are the parents and administration going to be the same old at in Ottoville?

Well no offense but Jennings didn't exactly have as good as talent so that's unfair to utendorf

I stand corrected I know a group of parents at ottoville did mention state because I was contacted to join their quest to get a new coach because he was the problem and that with the talent coming up state was possible with a better coach. As to being overconfident in your children I have no problem with but its the blaming others when it doesn't pan out that bothers me.

To say Turnwald had talent is not true either
