WBL Week 9
#1
Posted 16 October 2016 - 10:48 PM
(1-7) Defiance at Van Wert (0-8)
(8-0) Wapak at St. Marys (8-0)
(3-5) Kenton at Bath (3-5)
(5-3) Elida at O-G (7-1)
Game of the week: Wapak/St. Marys, although wow. Another week with possibly several tough games to pick? Maybe only Shawnee/Celina should be unanimous. Even with that, it looks highly unlikely anyone has a playoff shot outside of the top 3. Celina is actually mathematically eliminated at 4-4, and while a win would greatly boost Elida, it's still only in 19th place even with a 5-3 record. Wapak and St. Marys appear to be safe, although O-G might need to win out? Elida would provide good points and could be enough but it might be close.
Last week, finally a bit of a shake up. Some variety in results, with 9 perfects, three with 4 games right, seven people with 3 right, and one losing record with 2 right. Of the 61 picks in the last 3 weeks, only 5 were NOT perfect records. The 2 unanimous picks were the obvious ones, and the consensus barely went undefeated, with narrow wins in two of the games.
St. Marys over Defiance 20-0.
Celina over Van Wert 20-0.
Bath over Shawnee 18-2.
Wapak over O-G 11-9.
Elida over Kenton 11-9.

(1-7) Defiance at Van Wert (0-8) Cougars last chance at a victory. I think they win at home.
(8-0) Wapak at St. Marys (8-0) Two really good teams, but I think Redskins take this one in a squeaker.
(3-5) Kenton at Bath (3-5) Kenton is much better than their 3-5 record and they win a close one.
(5-3) Elida at O-G (7-1) Titans played well last Friday at Wapak, and will re-group and beat a surging Elida team.

(1-7) Defiance at Van Wert (0-8): Finally Defiance is in a winnable game. The last three weeks were brutal for the Bulldogs. Looks like 0-10 for VW again.
(8-0) Wapak at St. Marys (8-0): I'm shocked to pick this one myself, even I picked OG last week. Something about Wapak seems off right now and I think SM will control the clock enough to win in what could be the quickest game in WBL history haha.
(3-5) Kenton at Bath (3-5): Disappointed in the tough Kenton loss last week, so either they fold up the season or they respond with beating Bath like they should.
(5-3) Elida at O-G (7-1): Elida is better than expected but OG is too much for them.

(1-7) Shawnee at Celina (4-4) Home team and Shawnee isn't very good
(1-7) Defiance at Van Wert (0-8) hmmmm
(8-0) Wapak at St. Marys (8-0) OG shoulda woulda coulda won that game. I still think Wapak is down a bit
(3-5) Kenton at Bath (3-5) I probably should go with Bath but I'm not going to
(5-3) Elida at O-G (7-1) OG at home, OG a better team and OG knows they probably have to win out to make the playoffs. 8-2 probably won't cut it this year due to how bad the WBL is record wise.

Defiance over Van Wert - I felt like Defiance was making strides early in the year, then ran into a several-week buzzsaw of really good teams in the middle of the year. This game will be a better judge of where the Bulldogs stand.
St. Marys over Wapak - at this point of the year, schedules really aren't unbalanced anymore, and St. Marys has better averages on offense and defense. Going against my policy of picking the undefeated, defending champ until it loses.
Kenton over Bath - the metrics seem to favor Bath - Kenton has just 2 second level wins after all - but we must not be far enough removed from Kenton's dominating years because I just can't pull the trigger on it.
O-G over Elida - Titans had their worst defensive outing last week against their best opponent so far, but their season-long defense has been better than Elida's.

Wapakoneta Redskins. Got to go with my team. Going to be a tuff game. My blood pressure is already high just thinking about it. The numbers show that St. Marys should win. But we beat O.G. when the numbers show O.G was better.
Kenton with the win but not 100% sure of that.
I think O.G. will when this one.
