And Allen County?
I am a Spartan, as was my father before me.

Its all relative, When you go back 50 years till today the game has changed drastically. You are comparing apples to oranges in my opinion. To be truth full, who really cares who is/was the basketball player ever. The most important thing is he is one of the best in his era at this time. You could argue different names and in the end you will not change a lot of minds. A lot of really good players have come out of the area and I am not 100% sure who really is/was the best.

You have to consider the position played, competition played (schedule/opponents players), style of play that the coach was using, possible injuries. Just too many variables in my opinion!

Yes.......followed closely by Tre Cobbs and Dantez Walton. Great season for Lima when guys ike WBL POY Jaden O' Neal and Jakoby Lane Harvey are a distant 4th and 5th in the Lima area

"best" player opens up a huge can of worms...

Xavier is the most complete player from our area ever. his handles are sick, can drive and move in the lane, pull up from any where and hit 3's.

Greg was the best pure scorer I've ever seen in person. He did not have the passing ability of X (or maybe he just didn't have the desire....dunno)

X and Greg were truly great players with great abilities in high school, but now the real test begins for X and is in the past for Greg.......that being how X fares in college basketball......we all know about Greg's college career, but some other notables from Lima had much better careers than Greg.....John McCoulgh(sp) a star at Oklahoma, Joe Fischer who played at Dayton and also faced Bill Walton in the NCAA tourney, Aaron Hutchins, Clay Tucker, Travis Walton, Jim Andrews, Dakota Mathias, Reggie McAdams......I am sure there are more that slip my mind, but these players putLima on the map in a positive way because of there college play.....so I would say the jury is still out on X, but not so on Greg Sompson!!!!!!

yes, as hs players from Lima/Allen County. I don't think you can argue with it, though some may...

to be fair, the subject line said best HS player from lima...not best basketball career from Lima. how someone fared in college don't dismiss their hs career

Xavier Simpson is the best all round player to come out of Lima ever.
Yes Greg may have been the purest shooter ever but all round Nah.
he might night even be top 3 if factor in all round.
I never seen him play much Defense or assist much state championship game!!!
he was on hell of a shooter tho.
X posses all Smart, can shoot inside & Out, find open man, and play lock down defense.

No love for Jamar Butler? I don't think he is in the discussion of best ever, but should be on Flounder's list of Lima notables? Strong tattoo game at least.

High School is over now, let's see what he does in college. There were many great HS players, but let's wish him the best in the future.

Even though, technically, Elida is not part of Lima.......it is in Allen County. I would put Dakota Mathias in this conversation. best ever, no top 10, yes.....probably top 5.

If you think tat's is a Columbus thing, you haven't watched much college basketball.

John McCullough, drafted by the KC Kings in 1979, but only season played in the NBA was 1981-82 with the Phoenix Suns. He now is a girls coach Oklahoma Baptist Univ. He "was" a good one.

I was referring to Jamar not having any tats in high school, then going to Columbus and getting a ton of them (impressive ink, btw)...it was in reference to forfan saying Jamar's tattoo game being "strong"....guys, reading comprehension is a beautiful thing

tattoo's are really common place in OSU athletics and all of college basketball...and I'm not just referring to "pryor" players

Not sure you can pick just one. Put Jamar Butler on a team with the talent of this year's Spartans team and we have a real argument on our hands. Anyone who saw him put 49 on O-G in the District Finals his Senior year against the Titans (wilh the Pollitz twins) could probably argue that that was one of the all-time greatest HS performances they've seen. OG really only had to stop one guy with one of the best defensive teams around....and couldn't. Jamar scored whenever he wanted...from wherever he wanted. I'd put both Simpsons and Jamar as the top 3....in no particular order because of the difference in talent on the floor with them.

He's got a LOT of work to do to make the top 10. Hutchins, G. Simpson, X. Simpson, Butler, Joe Fischer, Jim Andrews, etc... There are more names listed above who are WAY above Mathias.

And Elida is not just technically not part of Lima, it's factually not part of Lima.

Tattoos are not just part of college athletics, they are part of life for kids. The 35 year old police chief of the village I work in is tatted from neck to toe.
