I'm not sure there is much debate at all on when to call of the dogs, some just simply don't do it don't care, and this is exactly what this thread is about. Calling player and coach alike out isn't an issue. As you say, call 'em as you see 'em. Good luck to the Spartans and their players and coaches.

Something about...the irony of opining about inelegant behavior via belittling/diminishing accomplishments of high school players/coaches...

I've missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.

Did I miss the defining ruling on the correct time to "call off the dogs?" I've seen multiple opinions my whole life.

Had a chance to watch Lima Senior play last night. If they play the rest of their games like they did last night, I don't think they will make it to state. Settled for too many 3's, too many times they were out of control. Don't have the dominate big man and relied on their jumping ability to get rebounds instead of boxing out.

It is early and I would love to see them do well. Of course they still have a lot of time to fix most of these things. If they run into officials that call it tight, this will hurt them. Way too much hand checking. They have great footwork, so I don't understand all the grabbing, especially away from the ball. I know football has taken out about 5 weeks of the season but they still have time to put it all together. They are good and let me say this. I think that they might be getting an attitude where they think they are better than what they really are at this point. This is just the one game that I had a chance to see them play, so my assessment really doesn't mean much. Of course it doesn't mean much anyway. Coach is doing a real nice job with all the different personalities on this team.

Coach:

I too thought we settled for too many jumpshots, at points stopped driving to the cup and trying to fouls. That being said, the tenacity on the boards and the defensive effort is high. Forced Findlay into 35 turnovers last night. To be quite honest didn't play all that well... And won by 27. There are several things they can improve on and it's early, but this team is that good. I would hope you could see the Dunbar game. Big thing is have to recognize when perimeter shots aren't falling attack the cup!

I guess having the city record is more important than having class. The coaching staff and administration embarrassed the city tonight.

Unless the jv played the whole game, you weren't gonna slow down that massacre. Fremont isn't a very good team, period. Not Q's job to make the Ross folks feel good. He's Lima Senior's coach. If you don't want X to score that much double him, junk defense, anything to slow him down. They didn't and especially after the first game, you knew what was coming...

It's too bad he did it against a team so bad... How long was he left in the game? He's lucky he didn't get hurt in a game that was over long before he came out.

Pulled about halfway through four. He came out smoking and the staff let him chase and get the record. No surprises in this game Fremont knew what was going to happen. And LSH still has to play at Oregon Clay.

so many hurt feelings in this thread...

yet nobody can seems to suggest opposing teams have a solid defensive scheme against him

instead of crying on your keyboard, maybe you should just enjoy the show the kid is putting on

X is a great player, maybe Mr. Basketball, fun to watch... scoring 65 against a hapless team, not so much. More impressed w/ his game winner against LCC...

I just don't have much of a problem with this. Sometimes you need to let kids go. Seasons fly by and he will never have another chance. Fremont isn't the worst team in the world and if you never let a kid go off you are holding him back. Very few players have ever had games like this.

On the other hand, there are injury risks and you want kids to act with class. I understand why some are upset, but I don't think it is an embarrassment for Lima.

Also, I thought the Fremont coach handled the situation with class. Props to him.

Not upset at all. Just disappointed to see a coach put his son above doing what is right. Kid had no business playing late in the game, let alone taking every shot. Trying to justify by saying he deserves it because he works so hard is laughable. The starting five were on the floor until five minutes left, if this happened at LCC with kill it would have been an outrage
