As Quincey touched on in the luncheon today, part of it was wanting his starters to play a bit more, it was their second game, and some advanced prep for tonight. The staff and the players lobbied Q to let him stay in and get the record. Also Coach Gedeon didn't see issue with it as they talked after the game. Lima Senior didnt press, just ran the basic offense. Anyway, glad this topic gave a breath of life to this otherwise dead board....

Folks, this isn’t about an individual record, it’s about playing the game the right way, sportsmanship, etc.

Please tell me having one player in a game who has 40+ points when you are up by that many points…where does that fit in high school sports?? Who cares about scoring records, 1,000, 2,000 points etc. One of the worst things about some of the new scoreboards is the listing of who has how many points…who cares??? It’s about the team. I’m sure as a father Q is very proud of X, but seriously, don’t you feel a little queezy when your boy’s scoring 50 points in a game where you have a great opportunity to put your bench in? There are games down the road where you can’t get everyone in?

I care about excellence across the board. I think a lot of people still do...? Otherwise, why have records?

This WAS EXACTLY about one player setting the record.

In my opinion, a much worse example of poor behavior than "crossing some subjective definition of sportsmanship line" would be coming onto a celebratory thread for a high school player and cherry picking reasons why the accomplishment should be minimized. Then add the component of pissing on the kid's coach/dad's face to make one's belittling...

Let's just say reasonable minded individuals could assume that score differentials and player minutes are but trivial matters when compared to the way certain fans in stands behave!

There used to be a saying that if you don't have ANYTHING nice to say...don't say anything. But we used to universally applaud excellence too.
I've missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.

We are in the age of "participation trophies", not accomplishments.

If the whining spreads and builds momentum state wide we will have a running clock in basketball in the near future.

I hope some of you on here get an X-box for Christmas with a basketball game that comes with it. You can select your own players and have no stars on your team. You can have every game end with a 1 point victory at the end. Have a shot clock of about 8 seconds and be entertained. One or 2 passes and up goes a shot. No admission price or standing in line. If you get upset you can bitch about the coach (that would be you but who cares). Make sure everybody on your team takes the same amount of shots and all have the same amount of points, oh yeah, everybody gets to play! You can come on here and do a write up about the post game.

Merry Christmas

Didn't Xavier set an unofficial record last year with some girl on the basketball court after hours?

So Mr. Simpson drops 30 on a potential final four team in Dunbar. Like Coach stated earlier. Lima Senior pulled starters first, Dunbar didn't and closed the gap from 20 to 10. Game wasn't that close. SPARTANS with a big one on Tuesday as they battle Findlay for the lead in the TRAC.

I think they should have left him in for 60. Psychologically that is a much better number than 59! Then I would have sat him.

ANY coach who is lucky enough to have a player like X would and should do all they can to facilitate a record for that kid. He earned it. He deserves it.

The fact the coach is his father...how awesome is that? His father got to sit front row to watch his son, and hardest working player on the team, achieve greatness. That's the absolute epitome of why fathers help their kids, and coaches coach!

This is a moment to celebrate excellence by a premier student athlete. This is a moment to celebrate a father's love for his son. This is a moment to celebrate a coach's love for his player.

I have NOTHING but love and respect for this entire story and the Simpson family. X was blessed with talent. But he was also blessed with a father who cares. Together...their workman-like attitude is legendary.

I fail to understand the urge to hate when we SHOULD celebrate. The Simpson's are the good guys. They've succeeded the old fashioned way. We need more Simpson's and less haters.

Well said and agreed
X and Q are great people.
X deserves everything he gets he has worked for everything.

absolutely classless.

also unproven rumor.

I don't know what he does in his down time, but apparently acting like a 5th grade girl is what you do in yours

Hope that folks got to watch LSH over the weekend. They are starting to get it and really gel as a team. The Spartan press is stifling and different guys are stepping up. Marquevious Wilson is playing out of his mind.. Tuesday a good test vs Findlay. Contrast in style...

LSH by 20
They are to quick, athletic, and that Defense is WOW!
And i believe next time they play Toledo they will win by 15.
If LSH looses before State Championship its bad season this year.
They have all the pieces
X at the point,
Marquavious and Jar
Rico, Ruben, Jalen they might not be tallest but them boys can get up.

I always love it when there's this automatic leap of jealousy when someone or something is criticized? Maybe the kickback the other way is a little shame for piling on?? I mean, let's get back to the whole sportsmanship thing, and it's not about "everyone gets a trophy" and "keeping all games close", it's about winning, and winning with class. Some people get it, and some unfortunately never get it.

I think 20 is being kind, but thanks for the vote of confidence. Just hoping that the team can outscore X.

Class is NOT coming on a message board to belittle a hard working student athlete's record achieving accomplishments via tearing down his father-coach. Some people get that...others never will.

When a coach should call off the troops is debatable and practically split down the middle in terms of opinions. Being jerk toward high school players, coaches, and fathers is a bit more universally frowned upon.

Jealousy certainly describes THIS thread more than class ever could.

Fwiw my opinion is that it is up to the team losing to throw the white flag. Once the losing team wholesale subs, then the "class" thing to do for the winning team to back off too. Blowouts are also a good time for the losing team to play their bench. I've never understood the concept of letting the benchwarmers get embarrassed by another team's starters in the name of keeping the score respectable.
Class works both ways.

I have no clue what happened on X's record setting night. And even IF things did not go the way I believe they should go (see above)...it would NEVER dawn on me to belittle X's accomplishments.

The class thing to do in such a situation would be to say NOTHING. My opinion is just ONE point of view on a debatable topic. Nobody rightfully owns the "class" response to either end game substitution patterns OR handling individual record performance nights.

Xavier puts up 23 as Lima Senior comes on late and beats Findlay 73-46. SPARTANS didn't play all that well tonight, fell in love with the jumpshot and wasn't hitting. Second half shot better and penetrated and opened the game up.. Host Elida Saturday.
