That would make for one on the sideline as a sub. NOT very good numbers if you ask me. But I haven't a clue......

I agree, pretty funny!! I am sure the non football program runs at a negative number financially and is support by the 'struggling program'.

Wrong!
Even a Jr hi football game brings in more gate money than a varsity soccer game and it costs half as much to attend a Jr hi football game as a varsity soccer game.
You could not be any further from the truth.

Really, If you knew what you were talking about which you obviously do not, you would know that varsity soccer admission is barely enough to pay the officials....Guess what, Football has had to carry the load the whole time. And You think the Football program should be canceled?? Are you for real?

So you can't get rid a program once it has been established? Interesting... Tell that to the last kids on the C-R boys and girls golf teams 3 years ago. And they had plenty of kids on both.

Oh.... Yes thee ever so sophisticated soccer crowd.
Ok so for argument sakes... I give in.
Could you please tell me how long it will take with 25 paying adults per home soccer game at $6 a head, will it take to pay for the land purchased, leveling of playing field, which wasn't done right and is now going to cost another $40,000- $60,000 (those numbers were told to me directly by the superintendent) and the surrounding fence? That land was purchased after passing the levy to fund the new elementary school, with the sole purpose of soccer fields,
I don't recall what the land purchase price was but pretty sure "development" was 100k plus.
Tell you what... just figure out how long it will take to pay for just the redo of the playing surface.
So why not "rid the school" (your words not mine) of the most expensive sport?
Lefty... you have mail

Moving on... Two counties have gone extremely one-sided on this topic of limited numbers for small schools. Crawford Country is 100% football-only, while Putnam County has several soccer-only schools. Both carry strong programs & are sustained pretty well financially. Football is the obvious money-maker given its midwestern American history, however, soccer has proven to be profitable in the PCL as well. Money is only an issue if programs suck & don't draw fans. Bad football teams lose money & good soccer teams make money. If teams win, then fans and money follow. Simple as that.
Regarding the $100K deficit soccer would need for its fields, that's vastly overblown or lazy on the BOE. There are several grants that would aid in that or a local farmer could do much cheaper than hiring a company out. Other schools/youth programs do this very cheaply, so the superintendent is either lazy or ignorant when it comes to those numbers because leveling any sports field isn't that difficult or costly.
As far as school size, CRawson has 79 boys (OHSAA). Good news, they have 36 boys out, meaning 46% of the school is playing. That's a decent percentage. Bad news, That's over two sports. That number for either sport would be good. Unless, strong personality coaches come in & begin from the ground-level recruiting and keeping kids interested (or you know - win), it's going to be an uphill climb for either sport. If the trend continues, it would be wise to eliminate one program. However, it doesn't really matter which one so long as the school fully backs it. Realistically, get two committed, good coaches for the two sports & both sports are capable of not only being relevant, but thriving. Having 43 boys in the school not participating is an issue. Between the two sports, they could participate in some manner & add depth.
