The reason they're taller in St. Henry and Marion Local is because they put their beer on the top shelf. If Fort Recovery wants the kids to grow taller they need to move the beer from the bottom shelf to the top shelf. Motivation is the key. lol

You may have something. Maybe they should study the effects beer drinking has on growth. I went from a tee totaling County (Van Wert) to one with the highest consumption of alcohol per capita in the US. My first experience was the good old Coldwater picnic. I ordered a beer and they gave me a jug, I thought it was heaven!

It also seems to be they do not complain about having to play a bigger school. Instead of complaining they just work harder to beat them. DSJ, Marion Local play Coldwater and know they are going to. They prepare for them, and that makes them better for schools in their divsions. BVC for example has had threads LB needs to leave. I haven't seen a thread Coldwater must go.

I think every MAC school enjoys having all the schools in the conference that they have. I remember on the Huddle people said DSJ shouldnt be in the MAC because they're a private school. Several CW, ML, and SH fans defended DSJ saying how much they enjoy and respect them and are proud to have them in the league. Every team respects their opponent, no matter what sport they're playing.

I noticed way back someone mentioned no football til 7th grade.
What are the pros/cons to that?

I'm guessing midget football has little or no bearing on any high school program. Delphos has had midget football for 40+ years. Four teams with good coaches and usually very successful. Despite that, DSJ stunk in football until they hired a good coach. St. Marys has midget football. Under Skip Baughman the Roughriders were dominant. When he left, they struggled. SM hired Doug Frey as head coach, they're pretty good again. Same with Wapak. Have midget football but the high school program didn't win consistently until they hired a good coach.

Curious, most of the teams that Delphos use to play in midget football had 7th grade teams and Delphos did not. Is this still the case?

St. John's does indeed have a 7th grade team.

Just curious, what % of Mercer Co kids come back to the area after college? If definitely helps when former good athletes come back & produce another generation of good athletes.

Last I heard the 7th grade team at Delphos was for kids that were over the weight limit for midget. Some of their 7th graders still played midget against other teams with just 6th and under graders. May of changed by now since most of the other teams decided to get in other leagues.

There are few 7th graders who still play midget as most are over the age limit.

NO midget program allows 7th graders. You heard wrong.

You heard wrong.

The Tri county league that Delphos is a part of is by age no matter what grade the player is in. 12 Years old before a certain date is eligible to play in this league.

There are very few 7th graders that play midget. Almost all of them are too old.

Most of the things said above are true. I would add: 2) The largest league in the state without any boys soccer.
That just shows you how smart the MAC is. More people show up for 1 football game than 16 soccer games. Which one do you think pays for itself and a lot more?

Originally from Mercer County- moved away after college and haven't moved back ... YET. My wife brings it up monthly as she is a Mercer County girl.

Here is my take- FWIW. Back home, family and personal responsibility still matter. I have lived and worked 2 other places/communities and yes, there are good people everywhere.

However, the difference I have noticed is that in Mercer County personal responsibility is very important to people and stressed to children. More so than other places I have lived/worked.

The family structure in Mercer County is the best- bar none.

Marion Local owes some gratitude from former coach Mike "Kaz" Cramer. He rebuilt the program right before Goodwin took over. Unfortunately, he did not get realize the "fruits of his labor" as some of the locals weren't patient enough to keep him around to see the renovation project all the way through.

Mr. Mexico,
Very astute observation and another interesting tidbit....
The ex-coach at Minster recently led his new team (LaSalle) to a state championship in only his 2nd year....kinda surprised more "big money" schools aren't going after more of the MAC coaches.....
