In this country we have private and public schools. Private schools do not have the resources or money to handle some special needs students. I was a special needs teacher for many years, in a public school. Public schools have more money $ and more services available to handle these special students, private schools do not. Some special classes may have only 2-10 students in them, but they are funded by federal laws, also, as a SNT I had an assistant, and sometimes 2 or 3 depending on the circumstances. Caldwell get this straight, PRIVATE schools do not have to take these special, wonderful kids. That is why they are called Private. Public schools Do. DSJ does NOT recruit, other schools do recruit all over the country, public and private. Get it, Got it, Good. Let's talk football.....
Thank you for your input. You are correct, PRIVATE schools do not have the money and resources for these special needs students. Thus these students are sent to public schools where they can get the help needed from fine teachers as yourself. These are wonderful kids, they deserve the small classes, extra money and any help that fine people like you can give to make their lives the best they possibly can be. Participating in sports is not even a consideration for many of these special need students. I'm not taking a shot at the PRIVATE schools for not having these special needs programs, they shouldn't.
My point is: There are factors that are not being taken in consideration when the OSHAA counts students in order to divide the sports into divisions. These are wonderful kids, yet it is my opinion that the PRIVATE schools are getting an advantage in sports by not having these students in their schools.
My second point: There are parents out there that don't care less if there kids go to school or not. Many of the kids don't even have coats to wear to school. No money for supplies or lunch, etc. Typically these students are on survivor mode and have no interest in school, let alone extra curricular activities. These students do not have the resources to afford PRIVATE schools. It is my opinion that the PRIVATE schools are getting an advantage in sports by not having to count these type of students.
I have no issues with PRIVATE schools, educating are children is the most important thing.
Just want to see things leveled out some when it comes to counting the students to determine divisions.
