Bluetiger,

I would think LB's coaches are very happy with how weeks 1 & 2 played out

Things go in cycles and Riverdale will improve but until then the playoff teams get an extra 0.5 first level playing them vs. playing a Vanlue or Hardin Northern in the recent years.

bob22,

you are correct they get zip from NB's wins. That's the only argument I've seen from you and I agree with the zip zilch nada....

I've tried to keep the math simple for you now with just showing the extra first level points for 2 weeks which is easy for most to understand.

When the season ends you will see a few BVC teams with 8-2, 9-1 or possible 10-0 records with higher Harbin points than they've ever had with that number of wins. I'll have more info later.

Since the expansion to 8 teams in 1999 has any bvc team been kept out of the playoffs with those records? Nope. The only argument there is LB going on the road in week 11 which happened one time. And other than that "seeds" are relatively meaningless.

With the move to 7 divisions well things are watered down enough you actually have to work hard not to get in.

bob22,

What is your school affiliation? That may help me explain some other things......

This will allow more possible home games in week #11 for BVC and maybe even avoid DSJ more often

bluetiger,

true on HL, would've been a tough 0.5 3-5 years ago. Not the same team anymore.

Expansion wasn't about Harbins anyways. It was $$$$. VB got more of a gate last night than they did the last 6 times they hosted CR and Vanlue combined.

The bigger and/or more successful schools had the others over a barrel because a league comprised of Arcadia, Vanlue, CR, HN and whatever other dregs they could pull together as a league wasn't gonna pay the bills.

bob22,

Now you are on to something, do you think the extra $1,500 was all of the schools motivation for expansion?

Or was the possible $$$ just a bonus?

I wouldn't bet the farm on this comment. IE...Bowling Green had about 100 people in the stands today and they were leading LB 7-6 when the game resumed. BG also did not even bring back their cheerleaders today. I do think LB was fishing for Harbin points by scheduling this winnable game, not $$$$.

Bluetiger, I agree with your analysis of this situation. Not all BVC schools were hunting for the extra $$$. Beating Vanlue & HN (recent years) has done nothing for LB/LEIP/MC/ARL

A quick check I see of 8-2 going on the road CR in 2002 and McComb in 2006.

I think 7-3 could host this year for the right Div 7 BVC team

How many paid Friday night? Even if it was 100 it's still more than twice as many as Vanlue. Add that to CR and HN completely falling off (or heading there in CR's case) and the need for better gates was becoming clear.

A few years back Vanlue had one of their community pow-wows about dropping football. Over 100 people in attendance according to the paper. Less than 50 showed up for their next game. I know, I counted them.

You know what...

My post about getting 11 wins from the returnees and 3 from the newbies is exactly what we got. (with HL winning)

Gotta admit though I'll have to chuckle a little if pg and nb both sweep the bottom half of the other division.

^^^^ they finished 10th that year.

FWIW, everybody below them, with the exception of NB (who went 8-2 also) was 6-4 or worse.

And again Arlington coulda dumped Riverdale long ago if they wanted to.

Bob, why do you keep saying this. Arlington was not in favor of expansion, but you seem to keep coming back around to the Arlington-Riverdale game as the reason the conference expanded.
