Is Westwood the school on the corner of Mermill and Liberty Hi roads in Wood County? The one that houses apartments now?

Yes, and they do a haunted house there in October.

Interesting- I always thought Westwood was Weston- just west of 235 and south of 6 west of BG.

Liberty-Benton's tentative Defensive set: Possibly joining the D-Line this year is 6-1 #228 A. Combs. He would be joining 3 other returning lettermen Kinsinger, Hartley and Conkle and the 4 would avg 6-1 #220. The linebacking core would also return 3 lettermen in Rhodes, Iott and Schimmoeller and that trio would avg 5-11 #200. Two of the four DB's would comprise Lawson and Rose leaving only two spots (DBs) up for grabs on a defensive unit that allowed just 9 ppg last year (including the playoffs) and only 7 ppg for the regular season.
So Combs would play RB and DL? That would be tough to run like he does and play Dline. Does he punt too? Craft doesn't play any DB?

This is what I'm hearing (Combs on DL). Time will tell. I guess Pasche played QB and LB, players do it. And you're right....I think Craft did play some DB last year.

It's possible, although honestly, you can control the snaps. In about 1/2 of their games, you can limit his snaps on both sides of the ball. And by the 2nd half in those games, he can be out of the games completely.

I don't think you typically see your top skill player on the line on D. I agree that they would probably only need him on either side of the ball in about half their games. And you always want your best athletes on the field, if you need them.

Will Allen East be a good test for them?

Bob, you must be 99.99% accurate. If you add up the total wins and total losses the combined record is 2,168-2,163 (only 5 games off). The interesting thing is that the top 7 teams of the standard 10 team league are all above .500. Only 3 teams are below (excluding Westwood). The combine record for Van Buren, Arcadia and Vanlue is 368-929. Interesting info Bob, Thx!

Your welcome. I know one of Arlington's ties wasn't added in. Found a couple of the fat finger mistakes so I'm within 4 games now. Will update the list after one more night of looking thru things.

I'm also working on breaking it down in 10 year increments. Kinda interesting to watch it change over time. But real depressing for C-R people.

Combs plays RB and OLB, not D-Line.

I thought he might be lining up at LB against Allen East. Hard to tell without numbers in scrimmages. Not that any position on D is easy, but playing OLB may take less of a toll on him than having to engage on the line every down. AE struggled with him running the ball.

Totally agree.... i think a lot of teams may struggle with him running the ball this year. He will definitely be the work horse of that Offense. It'll be interesting to see how often he gets a break on defense.

Kinda ironic... Hardin Northern has more kids out for football this year than 4 bvc schools, which includes 1 of the new members.

It looks like Hardin Northern has 29 kids, which would give them more than North Baltimore (26 listed in Courier tab), but Riverdale (I'm assuming this is the other new member you are speaking of) has 33 kids out this year. There are only 27 in the picture, but there are 32 players listed in the caption beneath the picture, and I know of another kid that joined the team a day or two before school started.

I might be wrong, but wasn't there mention some time back that HN's JH and midget teams actually had kids out, it was just their upperclassmen the past couple of years that kept their numbers so low? Couple that with the fact that football may be the only options for a boys' fall sport, and the excitement of entering a new, more competitive league, and numbers are bound to be up.

I'm not sure why a school like Riverdale can't get a few more kids out. I know there are some out there that argue that you can't have soccer and football and be competitive in both in a small school, but I don't buy that. I think we are the third-largest school in the BVC (we're still small, though). L-B, VB, and Riverdale all have football, cross country, golf, and soccer, yet the participation in each of those sports at Riverdale (except soccer) is not nearly as big as at L-B or VB. I'm not convinced that soccer has a negative influence on our football program as much as the kids that are just sitting on their duff that could have an impact. I really believe that year-round specialization in a single sport, video games, jobs, and just the lack of school spirit that used to be more prevalent in earlier generations has really hurt participation in HS sports.
