Not saying it is bad but CR has more sports in their school for its size than most schools that are much bigger. If the philosophy is to have kids gain an experience through the sports world it is great but if you really want to be competitive you have to drop some of your sports. (Football/Soccer) --- (Basketball/Wrestling) Then throw in Golf/Volleyball/Cross Country/Track that would be a lot of sports for that size of a school. Do they have swimming and am I missing any other sports?

^^^^^^

C-R hasn't had cross country for a long long time. Golf was dropped 3 or 4 years ago due to expenses not lack of numbers.

I agree with HH, when you have a school this small and is struggling at both 2 main fall sports, soccer and football you can't have both. It tears it them both down, football can and is a money maker . You cannot take the mentality of being sub par at two things where it might actually collapse both things. You need to get someone in there proactive to right the ship before it is too late

I thought Palte left for "Family" reasons..are you saying he lied to the players and the community?

You sound pretty close to him maybe he could use you on his staff at LCC.
Doggie, you of all people should know coaches always say the press friendly statements when they step down. Johnny RC may have scored a touchdown on his superintendent comment.....Just sayin

I agree with you. But John sounds like he has a bad case of sour grapes. No need to drag current players and coaches down for someone's bad choices.
I always supported Scott and Grove football. And I will always support Grove and whoever coaches. Not giving a fair shake to current staff is what gets me fired up.

It's a tough sell to change things....especially with a few folks there who think of high school sports as an afterthought. :wallbash: I believe that the Cory-Rawson administration knows exactly what needs to be done. The real question is, do they have the guts to do it? If they remain happy to be mediocre to poor in sports, so be it..... :bag:

I have a niece who plays just about every sport possible at C-R . I make it to a fair amount of her games and I am always dumbfounded with the attitude of most of the parents and athletes for C-R. I was at a softball game a couple weeks ago and the baseball players were running around in the girls dugout messing around. Not one coach, parent, or player said a word to them, being from Arlington I just cannot imagine that happening at one of our games . Just one example I have seen in three different sports, I hope for her sake they get is figured out .

Considering that the ball diamonds in Arlington are a mile apart I hope it wouldn't happen. :wedgie:

At least you coulda clarified that the baseball game was long over before that happened. And yes stuff like that does bother at least some of us parents.

Maybe I'll apply for the football and baseball job :pav: JUST KIDDING. HERE is what I think is potentially a great top ten rules for coaches to follow. Don't play upperclassmen ahead of underclassmen unless they are better than underclassmen and cut a senior Letterman who doesn't value team more than themselves. Two, parents can have opinions, but let the child fight his own battles. Three, if a parent over expresses his/her opinion to the detriment of the child and team a chat with the coach is in order. Four, the kids need to understand the motives and emotions of their parents and place the team ahead of their views if different. Five, be honest when I assessing the athletes current skill level and what they need to do. Six, do not tell a college coach anything but the truth and an honest opinion of the character of the athlete. Seven,be interested in grades. Very intelligent players better get great grades and show effort. Below average students better work very hard and perform above their skill level. Eight, absolutely address attitude and selfishness and it should not be a friendly chat. Nine, value hard work and effort. Ten, Winning is very important, otherwise why bother even play. If a student athlete buys into these ideas, a coach should have his back and treat him with the respect he has earned.

Great points LimaJock. Many of the parent issues can be handled at the preseason meeting, where you define what the program is about. Winning is important, but success isn't always defined in wins and losses. I think at small schools, and CR is one, you HAVE to have a high percentage of the student body playing sports. And you HAVE to have your best athletes, boys and girls, playing multiple sports. Coaches from other sports have to be flexible and share their kids. If not, you're running a glorified intramural program. And yes, academic is MOST important. 99% of these kids won't play sports after high school. The screw up in class, they are disciplined by the coach. Playing sports is a privilege.
