That is a fair observation of the weakness in Q's resume. But that may not be a concern for SOME people. For example, it would be fair for someone to say that Q's experience with the AAU type player is much more an important indicator for future Lima Senior success than high school success at smaller divisions. I myself, don't necessarily agree/disagree or care much either way...

But the point is that there are strengths and weaknesses for EVERY candidate. What any of us believe is the most telling traits for predicting success...or even defining what success looks like...does not really matter.

It only matters what the decision makers believe. This tit for tat denouncing of Q and DD's weaknesses is in dead horse territory by now. It seems to be in poor decorum. We are talking about two adults who have done a lot of good things for a lot of kids. Once Senior makes the decision, it will in no way change the fact that both of these guys have STILL proven themselves to be good coaches.
I've missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.

Slice is back...yea!

I don't understand why supporters can't just list the positive attributes of their guy. It always turns in to a bashing of the other candidate. Both candidates, and certainly others too, are more then qualified for this position. It will simply depend on what the decision makers are looking for...

I agree. Both men are quality coaches. They have never had any bad press that I know of and each is more than deserving of the job. I just hope that whoever gets the job that the naysayers would just support Lima Senior. I have always wanted for Lima Senior to do well. I live what you would call "Limaland" and surrounding communities are tied with Lima if we like it or not. Whenever someone asks me where I live it always ends up being about 15 miles from Lima etc.

I just feel like a good part of the community would be in an uproar if Q gets passed over again by Senior High to coach this basketball team. That said I feel like LSH knows this and would not even had given him an interview if he was not their guy they want.

So since you know it all
you know according to Quincy himself he will have his degree in December.
He was pretty close before!!!
Hutchins being under Seg for 1 season doesnt account for anything.
He has never coached a team on his own at any level.

Hutch coached the girls team at OSU-Rhodes for at least one season, maybe two.

I just want the board to hire SOMEONE soon so we can begin the next phase, which will be either (1) Q gets the job and his supporters crow/detractors lament or (2) Q doesn't get the job and his detractors celebrate & his supporters explode with outrage.
Either way, it will be fun to watch.
And don't forget, no matter who they hire, you will have heard about it 1st on Rocketcorner!

Whatever happens this next week will be one of the most defining moments in the history of Lima Senior as far as athletics on the varsity level are concerned. If what that has been said on this thread is true and the way that society is in this microwave period of time Quincy Simpson will more then likely be named head coach. Is this the best choice 5 years down the road? Probably not. However people want to win yesterday and empty seats do not pay the bills in the athletic department. Thats the world we live in and more then likely that world is not going anywhere anytime soon. The fact of the matter is that you have a private school down the road that has won two state championship in the last five season with what some diehards would say with our players. That statement speaks volumes in and of itself. If Doug Davis is named, he will be under a microscope from day one, there will be no honeymoon period on that hire. With Simpson there will be some patience, not much but some. In summary Quincy Simpson is the impact pick and one that will jump start the basketball program and will bring excitement to Spartan Way. And thats the way I think they should go

Q will be the coach... Lima Sr has no other option, if they want to have top billing in Lima.

What happens to Bath with any of these scenario's? They won't be nearly as good next year, but they won't be back to the single 4-5 win teams that they had in the past.

Did you forget that public schools own ALL the kids that live in their district? Any kid who doesn't attend their school has been stolen.

What about 1500 Lima City Schools kikd who are open enrolled at Shawnee, Bath, Elida, and Perry? Only ones discussed or the 50 or 60 who are at LCC.

Because those 1500 weren't hand picked.. Ironic that of the 50 at least half are good/great athletes .. But that cable road school is about to take a hit this week athletically

Maybe Lima City Schools should try to figure out why the other 1,475 are leaving instead of worrying about losing a few athletes. If I was losing that many kids I think I'd want to find out why real quick and work to change it as soon as possible. How much money is LCS losing from all those kids open enrolling?

If Q is hired... We will find out real soon how important academics are to some of these LCC kids and other schools. I have no clue personally. I have doubts like a lot of people. But I can see where academics might be the most important reason for some (all?) . Maybe they all stay.

Now we have been lead to believe that academics, hard work, superior coaching etc have been the primary reasons for LCC's success by their supporters (all?)... I can't recall a single incident (though admit I could have missed it) from an LCC supporter who would do much as even hint that "border stretching" might have played a role in their athletic success. I think the prior sentence is the part that rubs so many wrong.

We MAY get a chance to see how important "border stretching" has been...IF the possibilities suggested occur.

I honestly believe they will STILL be a very good team even without the possible boomerang defections. But they probably are not state championship caliber.

Are these "boomerang defections" similar to "helicopter parents?"
Or are they more closely tied to "head in the sandies?"

My gut tells me Davis, but I'm beginning to believe some of our RC posters
who are a little closer (or certainly seem) to the situation that we are...
Ever since JB took a powder (and with that heroin epidemic sweeping Ohio I wonder?)
our pipeline into Lima is a little weak down on Central & Vine....

This will be a telling moment if this all shakes out as many are predicting....
student-athletes who are going to LCC now suddenly find God and better academics
at Lima Sr........tell me again about Lima City Schools failing programs?
tsk, tsk, tsk...now wouldn't that be something?....the decision was made this weekend
but for the life of me I can't get any of my homies to turn state's evidence....

This might be one time, where "you didn't hear it first on the RC!".....RM
