Congrats to all pitchers on a great game as Bulldogs beat Titans in 12 innings. I just hope Tanner's arm doesn't completely fall off in the morning pitching that many pitches.UC coaches won't like to see that pitch count, that's for sure. The beat goes on for the Defiance streak

I had to leave in the middle of the 8th and thought he should have come out after that. I don't know how many pitches he had thrown at that point but I would imagine around 100 or so. Both Shimmoeller and Turner were outstanding today. Had a nice crowd at the game. It was good to see all the people come out to support their teams.

That was one of the best high school baseball games I have ever seen. Two great pitching performances. OG didn't get the win, but went toe to toe with Defiance, a team that is the gold standard not just in the WBL but in all of Northwest Ohio. Just a really well played game between two very good teams.

Defiance's ace, if they have an ace, is not used up. Turner, their no. 2, pitched into the 9th inning. Hancock, their no. 1, pitched a little over 3 innings, and should be ready to go by Tuesday.

And they also waited until after 9pm to make the call.....a lot longer than needed according to NFHS rules. They came back after an hour delay and threw a wild pitch to put the runner on 2nd before lightning hit again. Kudos to Wapak for being willing to stay...but at some point you have to make the call. Heck of a run by the 'Dawgs. Wapak at OG on Friday.....should be another good one.

Congrats to Defiance on an amazing run, one that you will not see duplicated

And congrats to Wapak and especially Chace Culver, beating Defiance twice during his career, once in the regional finals to send Wapak to the state tourny for the first time ever and then again tonite to end the Defiance WBL win streak

Way to go 'Skins!!

Last WBL loss was April 28, 2006 for Defiance. In 2006:
Gas was an average of $2.80
The current seniors were in 4th grade.
The top grossing movie of the year was Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, the top rated TV show was American Idol Tuesday, and the top selling album was the High School Musical Soundtrack.
The Wii came out, Google bought out YouTube, Saddam Hussein was executed, and Hannah Montana debuted on Disney Channel.
Some people still respected UM football. It had only been two years since its last Big Ten title, instead of the current ten years.

Before this loss, Defiance was 92-2 in WBL play since the year after Billingsley graduated. Overall since that time, Defiance lost as many as 5 games only once (the year after he graduated), and was 281-32 (89.8%) overall with three 30-win seasons.
4 entire classes went all through high school without losing.
Held’s WBL record was 56-7 (88.9%) heading into that season and is 130-10 now (92.9%).
I also believe the 72-game streak is the 2nd longest in WBL history in any sport, with Defiance Wrestling having won 80-some matches in a row from 1988-1996.
Note: Defiance did lose to Wapak, Shawnee, and Celina in tournament play during that time.

Coach Held and his Defiance program is a class act. He always helps other pitchers in the WBL that come to him. It's so hard to beat them because even when they are "down", they still take care of the fundamentals.

It took Chace Culver, a team of good Wapak hitters, (They killed us at Bath) and a thunderstorm to take them down.

It was interesting that the umpires saw lightning and stopped the varsity game in the 7th inning at 6:40 p.m.. The JV game 100ft. away kept playing. The lightning was to the back of the JV umpires so they didn't see it.

Culver did nice job of keeping the Defiance hitters off balance with his 80 mph fastball and an assortment of breaking balls. Wapak was definitely the better team last night.

To put the streak into further perspective: I'm 26 years old. The last time they lost a league game, I was a senior in high school lol.

I wish they could have gotten the last 2 outs in just so there was no "what ifs," but the right call was made especially after all that time. Instead of dwelling on that, I'm going to just celebrate the streak and congratulate a really good Wapak team for ending it. It had to end some time, and I'm glad it happened against a good team with a great pitcher instead of on some fluke one big night by a mid pack team.

If the game was called with the home team behind in the bottom of the 7th what we should have is a suspended game. Look in the OHSAA Preseason guide.

Suspended Game Procedures

No game is ever ‘called’ and ‘started over’ at a later date. When a regular season game is interrupted or suspended for ANY reason and the
game cannot be resumed that date, the game will be SUSPENDED if the team behind in the score has not completed its turn at bat in the fifth inning.
When a game HAS gone beyond the fifth inning, it is a complete game, subject to these TWO EXCEPTIONS:
1. THE GAME IS TIED. The OHSAA does not permit any baseball game to end in a tie. All games are considered
as “won”, “lost”, or “suspended”. Therefore, a tied game is a “Suspended” game.
2. THE GAME HAS GONE FIVE INNINGS AND THE VISITING TEAM HAS SCORED ONE OR MORE RUNS TO
TIE THE SCORE OR TAKE THE LEAD AND THE HOME TEAM HAS NOT RE-TAKEN THE LEAD AND THE
GAME IS CALLED WHILE AN INNING IS IN PROGRESS BUT BEFORE IT IS COMPLETED.

I dont see where you are going with this. If I am not mistaken, Wapak was up 4-2 after the 5th inning. So section #1 and #2 are both null and void.

The Defiance paper said the WBL has a rule that a game is complete after 4 and a half innings that overrides the OHSAA rule.

Just looked it up online:
Rule 4-2 Section 2 Article 3

If weather or darkness interferes with play so that the game is called (ended) by the umpire it is a regulation game:

section b: if play has gone beyond five full innings.

Now I am not sure if the State of Ohio has adopted different policies or not. I know that a tournament game cannot be called
but not sure of a regular season game.

League rules may not be modified per OHSAA 2012 Season Bulletin #3 April 12, 2012 – BB Bulletin

"6. Modifying Rules – There have been reports of some leagues, some games, varsity and sub-varsity, where the playing rules are being modified. Examples include double headers that are five innings, using an “Extra Hitter” or “Additional Hitter” (EH/AH), batting everyone on the bench, or using a player (most often the pitcher) as both a player and a DH. These rule modifications are not sanctioned and are not legal. Agreeing to play with these rule changes not approved by the OHSAA or the NFHS has some possibility of placing an umpire at some risk. Please let me know of these instances."

I believe the point you make is clear. I still disagree with you on the fact that after 5 the game is a complete game. Like I stated earlier, after 5 complete innings the game was 4-2 Wapak. After 6 innings the score was still 4-2 Wapak. Even though Wapak batted in the top of the 7th, the score never changed. So I believe the final score of 4-2 should be correct. I think though, it should state 4-2 in 6 innings. I believe the final inning played should be the one completed by both teams.
