Let's get something straight. About 5 years ago, both of these kids were in grade school - NOT LCC. Stop making it seem like they pulled them out one high school and dropped them into another.

Never said anything about them leaving LSH both dads coached and graduated from LSH and kids in school system then both move to LCC and I know for a fact Martyce didn't play a minute of bball at LCC til hs he played at Lima west JH (LCS) 7 and 8 grade

You almost wonder in today's world that you need to look at the AAU programs and see what coaches their players will play for. You can bang your head against the wall all you want to get a teacher/ coach, do things the right way, but at the end of the day, Lima Senior needs the best ballers in Lima going to Senior to have a chance to compete in the TRAC. Until you can routinely compete with Whitmer, St. John's and Central Catholic, it's going to be a struggle.

I have no insight to any of this. I frankly don't know much about Lima Senior basketball. I'm sure there are many qualified candidates worthy... I don't advocate or pretend to advocate for ANY candidate.

That said...anybody under the illusion that Q is not qualified or worthy of this position is talking silly. He is MORE than qualified. I think he could put together a team that could have Senior in Columbus as soon as next year. That guy commands respect...and deservedly gets it.

I don't know if he wants it...or they want him...etc. There are certainly other qualified candidates too. But to imply that he wouldn't or shouldn't get it based upon some perceived lack of qualifications is ridiculous in my opinion.

I've missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.

Dman......

Lima Senior in Cbus as soon as next year.........that my friend is a pretty big statement....if he is that good, people would be going through walls to hire him...........those kind of people are really hard to find, and to find one that can make a winner that quick at the D1 level.........I just don't know!!!!!!

If you have insight to AAU...and know the kids Q has worked with already at Senior, at LCC, Shawnee, and Elida...off.the top of my head... He gets those guys to Senior...and I stand by my statement. And I strongly believe he can deliver almost all the players I'm thinking about.

There would be zero learning curve and no worries about buying into a system. They bought into him a long time ago.

Again...I'm not advocating. There are certainly other deserving candidates. I'm just making an educated opinion about the fact this guy is at least qualified...some seem to suggest he isn't... If he gets the local kids he has worked with recently...I double down on that opinion. Anything can happen... But he could easily take that bunch to Cbus if things went smooth...and nothing I've seen with that guy leads me to believe it would not be smooth. He is a disciplinarian, stresses defense, and has complete respect.

I guess I should insert at this point that I'm def an advocate of Coach Simpson, as well.... My comments are strickly to the the over-exuberant supporters (on any side) and find it amusing. :)

Flound,

I believe that Dru Joyce from ASVSM has it figured out....

those AAU-type coaches are able to draw the talent to them...coaching ability doesn't enter
into the equation. Talent wins games today...if this Q guy can recruit the talent from near
and far, I could see LSH in Cbus next year....though the OHSAA might be just a few steps
behind, kinda like that Toledo Whitmer thing a few years ago....

I just don't see LSH going in this direction...RM

Dman.............

I am a bit puzzled here....you are against privates for recruiting, yet you sound like it is ok for Coach Q to bring in afletes from all the schools around Lima.........sounds like a Dru Joyce of Lima to me!!!!!!

I never said I thought it was right. I've just given my opinion of what I think would/could happen. Lima Senior powers would have to decide what they think is best for their program. I will say that at DIV I...it is sort of expected...???

As for SVSM the joke in my section is that they were just a few players short today. :-D The difference between Q and most AAU coaches is Q can coach.

Again...I like a lot of the other names too. Davis stands out... But Q...even though some of his supporters have gone a little overboard on here...is NOT a stereotypical AAU coach. He really is a defense first, disciplinarian type coach.

The recruitment or open enrollment issue will be a part of any initial success... But I'm sure that all these kids would only be going for educational reasons... ;-)

The vast majority live in Senior's district already. There would not be a penalty...

I wouldn't allow it if I were in charge. But I'm not in charge. I just know the guy can coach and likely deliver a juggernaut overnight.

about 5 years ago he was JV coach and Marty kimbrough was Varsity assistant. Quincey went and coached at Osu-Lima and took his boy (Xavier) to LCC and Marty also stopped coaching at LSH around same time and took his son (Martyce) to LCC for whatever reasons and now Martyce Kimbrough and Xavier Simpson are LCCs 2 most important players leading the Birds in cbus this weekend..

while I don't know about X, I do know it was Martyce mom who made the decision for him to go to LCC. His older cousins graduated from LCC as well. (No they were never lsh students). As for X. all the kids but last years older bro who attended LSH are in the catholic school systems.

If Quincy gets the job what happens in two years when Xavier is playing in college? Q seems like the kind of guy who would want to watch his son play? Coaching HS basketball would make that awfully tough to do. Also, if LSH offers Q the job, is it contingent on X coming back to LSH? It would be a little tough to convince the city kids that LSH is a great option if the coach's son isn't even willing to play there. The competiton level that Senior plays would help X in preparing for college...but would he be willing to leave LCC with all the talent they have coming back?

Actually, he probably will be positioning for an assistant job as part of the scholarship deal!!!!!!!!!!!!! LJ

X. Simpson is a great HS player. As far as MAJOR D-1 colleges go, he is not very sought after. Xavier is not good enough for Q to leverage himself an assistant coaching position at a major D1 program. No way.

that's size related...if he puts on a show and gains an inchbefore graduation, you'll see D1 looks his way...also, he's playing with another prolific scorer in Kimborogh...remember, X is 16. the court awareness he displays at this age is rare.

also, if (IF) he were to move to Spartan Way, he'd get a lot more looks due to strength of schedule

X has already proven himself against the best competition in AAU. He is certainly getting multiple looks from DIV I schools already. I guess some can dispute what the definition of "Major" is in this case.

These X threads remind me of those who didn't think Aaron Craft could play at a high level. Some people who only watch high school basketball...sometimes don't understand... Like it or not...these kids make their names in spring and summer circa 2014.

That kid's skill set its rare indeed.

What are the private-to-public transfer rules? Would Xavier have to sit out a year, per OHSAA regulations?

You're 100% correct. Where you go to high school does not matter when it comes to basketball and some other sports. Football, sometimes. AAU and Club sports has dominated the scene the past 10-15 years. At the big AAU tournaments, you might have 10-15 D1 coaches watching. That never, NEVER, happens at a HS game. Not even the state championships. HS doesn't matter especially if you're already playing with the 'Big Boys' all the time, at the AAU level.

For the transfer rules question, a student can transfer from a catholic school into the school district they reside in without penalty (a la Brucey Hodges to Perry a couple years ago). If any other students transfers to a different school they have to sit out 50% of the regular season contests before playing. Harvist Prep (who just blatantly disregard any recruiting rules) had three guys on their team who sat out half the games before playing the rest of the season this year.
