Also heard Myer's applied for a JR High Science job after he received the Football job but he was rejected for the science job... Interesting... He's good enough to coach but not enough to teach??? Talk about your mixed signals

Zoo daddy,
the PG administration would not accept my application....their thoughts and mine
differ tremendously on the troubles of our athletic programs at PG....

for 20 years I cared and wanted us to be a force in sports......they have sucked
the life out of the community and no one (unless your son or daughter is currently playing)
remotely cares how we fare......so sad, and I won't be a party to it any longer....
That's true at a lot of schools.

if I remember correctly, I believe the JH Science position was a 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Science position...if he has a 7-12 license, he would not be eligible to teach the 6th grade part. Wow, that is definitely not a good start if that is true....

Why would the Jr. High include the 6th grade. That really limits the ability to hire someone. If P-G includes the 6th grade for all of Jr. High they can basically only hire Jr. High teachers with a K-12 license. I didn't realize there were a lot of teachers like that, especially new teachers.

This is the post for the job on the JOBS-L Listserv website: "This position is for a middle school science teacher for 6th through 8th grade
for the 2014-15 school year. Must be willing to coordinate with colleagues to develop cross-curricular lessons and utilize technology. Prefer licensure with
4-9 Science or Elementary 1-8 with highly quailed in area of science."

Schools can hire teachers that don't fit the exact grade levels. They take a hit on the grade card that the state puts out but it can be done IF they have the constitution to do it...

effingA hit it- this is a huge mistake on P-G they should've placed him and worked around. Hell I work in a system where I know three teachers that haven't even passed their praxis II test, failed it multiple x and they still have a job- How don't ask me, but it just shows a district can do whatever they want, just depends on where the priorities lie, and obviously football is not at P-G.

How dare P-G put education before football, they should hire some teachers that can't pass their praxis ll test,[whatever that is] then they can crank out professional football players like the rest of the league.
I understand the frustration, getting a good coach is so important but don't forget what high school is all about.

IMHO, School is about more than academics... It's about the whole experience, whether it's academics and (fill in the blank). There has to be something more than just academics to make a well rounded kid.
Is it too much to ask for both a high standard of education and athletics?

IMO, PG has blown this opportunity to get a football coach in the hallways of the school.

AND... McComb may have some challenges in a HS teacher and former coach walking their halls as the head football coach of a BVC rival.

The only way PG and its board have any blame here is if the job was offered to Myers without a complete discussion about the possibilities of him teaching there. If he accepted the football job because he thought he was also getting a teaching job at PG then clearly there was a communication breakdown somewhere. But if he's not qualified or certified to teach a certain grade level there is no way they should bend the rules just to get him in the building. No way.

If the coach has a science degree to teach HS then an argument can be made that he can teach JH/elementary science and who knows...maybe step into a HS position.

But, The focus of my point is, trying to get the best both worlds in having the coach in the education system which, IMHO is ideal. And, If there was a way to do it w/o
breaking the rules and PG didn't do it, then IMO, they erred.

Actually teaching licenses do not work that way...you are limited to the level your license is, not top down idea like what was stated by Smokey. So for Myers, I assume he is a 7-12 teacher due to the subject he teaches at McComb. There must of been some major miscommunication if he took the football job for the teaching job as well. I agree with idea that you are better off with your HC being in the school vs out (but some people make it work like Inselmann when he was at PH).

Where did Inselmann teach?

IMO The board an administration finally got one right. If the administration will back this guy up, and let him do his thing, he will not only build the program into a solid program, but he will turn boys into solid young men. I am sure the board will be trying to fit him into a teaching position when they see the quality individual that he is. Rocketman, he is going to make you want to come back and be apart of Rocketpride again.

I wish coach Meyer the best of luck and hope the parents embrace him and allow him to run his program. I do wonder about the whole process by the BOE. You would think that when hiring an assistant from another program, a good person to call and get some info from would be the head coach he worked under. Just sayin. And I know for a fact this didn't happen.

I hear there have been some challenges already- IE the coach of an opponent teaching in the HS and what not. PG and McComb play this season?
