You can lead a horse to water........you know the rest.........
You are dead on about getting a coach that the kids relate to and respond to. He can draw up all the x's and o's in the world but if the kids won't play for him, you know what the result is. As good as Doug Davis has been lately, and I have nothing against the guy, I'm not sure he's the right fit...Being the head coach at Lima Senior entails a bunch of things outside of the realm of coaching. Some people embrace that some don't. I don't know if Doug is or wants to attack the challenges with coaching in the inner city vs. suburbia. I just hope that the selection committee weighs everything before settling on or for "who's hot" right now.

I just think it is idiotic (using your words) to rip a qualified candidate. Especiallywhen your lack the knowledge to offer possibilities that meet the criteria you judged Davis by.

21 Players from Ohio played in the game
6 led their team to a State Championship
3 led their team to a State Runner up
2 led their team to a Final Four appearance
10 of them never even got to the Final Four
If my memory serves me correctly, one can look at the game against Lakota many ways. Your way is OF COURSE the MOST NEGATIVE toward the Coach and Team.
I personally offered NO ONE, those two came from people in Lima. I HAVE NO KNOCK ON DAVIS, again I stated FACTS that seemed to support the previous poster that said Davis did not build a program rather had a couple of good classes. Just the FACTS. I am and will continue to do research on Paul Whitney and Quincey Simpson to see "what they bring to the table". I am ultimately concerned with LIMA SENIOR BASKETBALL. No hidden agenda here.

I personally think Emzer's and Stevie's team might have been more talented but I'm not a Lima guy and don't know much before the 70's. The team Neikamp took to Cbus was pretty good. Heath had a couple good teams also.
Just an opinion, like yours... don't read too much into anyone's...

I don't have a horse in this race but I agree with what SpartanDome is saying. Paul Whitney was not his choice, it was a name given to him by someone he contacted and he passed the information on. Also, I've read these posts and have yet to see him bash Davis. He simply brought up the records of Davis to say he isn't exactly what other posters claim him to be. I've seen many coaches hired after they had a couple of good years and became the flavor of the month. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Other than being a LSH alum and having the first two good tournament runs of his career make Doug Davis the right choice to be the next head coach at Lima Senior.
If Whitney is interested I would say interview him too. I am not saying Davis is the only answer to be teacher/coach at LSH I'm just curious who will have a better resume? I think it would silly not to interview Davis with his recent success running a D2 program. I'm sure they will take the best 3-5 applicants and interview them and I am sure Davis (and Whitney if applies) are amount those 3-5.

I'm not saying I want Quincey as coach in hopes that players from LCC will follow, I just feel he's the coach that kids will respond too. He knows their background, the home condition some of the kids deal with. I just see it as a good fit.

What was Jefferson's record prior to Davis' first season there? Believe it was consistently 0-2 wins per year. And as for them not getting out of sectionals in those few years, I believe they lost to a very good St. Henry team and Wayne Trace (who lost to Akron SVSM by one two games later) in the sectional finals during two of their best years. I'm not arguing he is the best coach in the world, but you keep acting like these programs were relevant prior to his arrival. Jefferson hasn't been very good since. I just don't see many possibilities out there that are better.

It would seem to make sense to allow the new coach to grow into the job..
He would certainly be able to relate to the younger athletes at LSH and could talk
their lingo...he has the street cred that they can understand.....
Why not give him the chance and see how it shakes out?....if it doesn't work out
in a year or two, move on and try to persuade Q to come back after his son is finished
playing?......RM

All 3 have created account in past week or 2 once the LSH bball season ended
All 3 have talked bad about Allen and/or Davis
All 3 have praised Quincey Simpson as a great hs bball coach and best option even talked about his ability to coach JV basketball years ago
Mysteryman puts a multi paragraph post promoting top tier sports showcase on this site and I believe that is Simpson's camp.
All the hating on Davis makes sense. He's the biggest threat to get the position and most likely going to get it, so pull up his 15 years coaching record to try to diminish what Bath has accomplished the past few seasons.
It's obvious there is personal commection with Simpson..
