Sounds like winning State is pretty easy to do. Let's see, 4 state Champion coaches each year, 825 schools. If Justin Case is a gambler let me know, cause I will play him in any game of cards if he gives me those odds. but if he is that good he will win about 5 of the 11 games we play!

Am I missing something here or am I just that stupid?

Stewart, I bet it was a long winter for you, since you had you wait until district finals to finally have something bad to say about the OG Girls program. They had a great season at 22-3. Coach Yant has the program headed in the right direction. They play hard nose defense and push the ball up the floor. These girls were great to watch the last 2 years and it was impressive to witness their vast improvement.
Did O-G have a lot of seniors on the team?

Stewart, OG should have had 4 or 5 State Championships during coach Smith's tenure with all of the talent, height and athletes she had to work with. During her time she had 3 to 4 - 6' plus girls on every team, 2 Division I players on the same team for 2 season's and a State Championship track team among her tenure.
If coach Yant ever gets that many athletes, height and DI basketball talent, OG will be the UCONN of Ohio High School Girls basketball.
Justin, your post was justin credible

If the OHSAA decides that the tallest team on the court automatically wins then O-G will win a lot of championships.

Also, who cares exactly how many wins and what trophies they get. The important thing is the journey and what the athlete learned which will help them in life. GROW UP PEOPLE. :furious: :furious: :furious: :furious: :furious: :furious: :furious: :furious:

Everybody needs to get over the fact that Lori Smith is not the coach at O-G and that Troy Yant is now. Maybe in hindsight the dismissal of Lori may have been the best thing that happen to her on a personal basis. I heard that she got married and now is doing color commentary for the radio station out of Napoleon. So maybe for her it was a blessing in disguise. She has had the time to step away from the game from the bench perspective and maybe after a few seasons away she may surface again to coach at another school whos to say. Whats in the past is that, its in the past. Just move on.

So if your CYO team goes to state, does the firetrucks bring them back into town? Do you have
pep rallies???

funny you should mention that......a few years ago we were in Ottawa and we were sitting in the living room
of a friend's house when the fire whistles started going off over in Glandorf....a few minutes later the
Glandorf firetrucks drove by followed by a procession of cars headed to the Bombshelter......yep, you guessed
it....the Glandorf girls CYO team had returned home from state....RM

I can't believe this, but I am sitting off side the road on Main St. in Ottawa right now waiting on some firetrucks and police cars to go by........there are about 40-50 cars following them down US 224. One of the neighbors is
saying that both the girls and boys teams from Ottawa and Glandorf were coming back from the State CYO championship
that was held up near Cleveland this weekend.....well, if that don't beat all....

stay tuned next week when the 5th-6th grade tumbling team from Jenna's Gym has their championships in Columbus!!

don't worry OG faithful, you've got some talent coming next year that will ease your coach-plaining. Get your upcoming freshman point guard a couple bigs and another shooter and your lady Titans will be fine.

I don't think any OG girls followers are worried. They only lost three games to two very good teams, and I'd like to have seen them play Lima Bath at the end of the year instead of the beginning. They did all this without a single player 5'10" or taller which you can't say about many quality high school teams.

Although they lose their WBL POY point guard and two other pretty good guards to graduation, they have a lot of players back that are two or even three year varsity winners with lots of PT.

Personally I thought Coach Smith was a great coach - but I think she had a hard time dealing with the severe talent drop-off that spanned about 3-4 years. She had high expectations and was very old school in how she did things, which is hard for teenage girls (and their parents) to take when they are losing over and over. Coach Smith's style is probably better suited for big-city programs that are talent-laden, a strong boys program, or even the women's college level. They were unathletic and fundamentally unsound and it was hard to take after having a slew of college scholarship level girls the previous 5-6 years.

Coach Yant had the benefit of a clean start with the current girls (and parents) and concentrated on defense first which carried them from a bad, to fair, to a very good program. He had a strong rapport with some of them from being the head coach of the softball program which he also turned around. All this, and a lot of young talent coming up was a good recipe for improvement.

I guess we'll see how good of a coach he is next season. I would say he's no going to be as good as he was this year. It's amazing what graduation will do.

I watched OG beat a talented Ottoville team Saturday. They did this by getting 17 offensive rebounds and hitting 6 or 7 3 pointers and playing tenacious defense. Against LB they fell behind 11 to 0, came back as LB got into foul trouble to take a halftime lead but then couldn't contain 6'3" Kotey in critical stretch of game in the 3rd and 4th quarters. With this group of girls,Yant has one of the best defensive teams in the area, but they struggle against taller teams especially if they don't hit outside shots. OG made 2 3's against LB while LB had 6. LB held Ottawa to 15 second half points
