In the face of a potential winter storm that could drop 4-8 inches of snow with 30+ MPH winds on NW Ohio, what would be done if games can't be played Wed.? BGSU has games scheduled every night of the week, beginning tonight, with the D2 and 3 finals to be played Saturday.

If Wed. can't be played do they move each game back a day and play the D2 and 3 finals on Sunday? Play the D3 Thurs. at a different location? or just go ahead and plow through, even though every team playing at BG (except maybe Ottawa Hills) is driving a minimum of an hour and in the case of Worthington Christian close to 2 hrs.

i am hoping that this is not an issue and the storm dissapates and/ or misses the BG area.............just wondering if anyone has heard anything.

Like always the weather guys are wavering a little. Accuweather says 3-6 inches then at the bottom of the same forecast says 2-4 inches. Sounds like it's going to start out as rain so maybe a lot of it won't accumulate when it changes over to snow. Would think if it's 2-4 and the worst part is over by early afternoon they could get the main roads cleared and play. And if they can't play the games they should just declare LCC the winner of the division 3 BG regional since everyone wants to see them play Cleveland St. Joe at state :-)

I don't think there's any way to move everything back a day. I have HEARD some speculation about moving the games to Thur and playing at a different site (ONU to be exact), but that is pure guess by some Lima-area media on Twitter.

I personally wondered about the possibility of split sites for the semis like they do for a few of the girls regionals, but I don't know how important it it is to the powers that be to have both at same site.

I will say, though, that my experience has been that it takes a pretty serious weather event to postpone a tournament game.

Agreed, like I said some of the schools are traveling quite a distance and 30 MPH snow blowing East- West across I-75 is no picnic. A late winter storm hit back in 2008 on a Saturday when OG- Archbold were supposed to play the regional final at BG and the game was moved to Sunday night at like 7:00 or 8:00 (I remember it was late) because BGSU had something going on that afternoon.

Anyway, hopefully this misses, but just wondering........is there anything in writing to deal with a potential situation like this, or do the "powers that be" just play it by ear? Also is it a good idea to exclusively use a site to host 3 regional semis and finals in a 5 day span? I remember some regionals being held in Toledo in the past.........not to mention other locations where districts are held could also accomodate a regional.

I don't imagine there's anything in writing. I bet they have forseen the problem and discussed contingencies such as alternate or split sites like I mentioned.

I think if it is postponed the first option would to probably play at ONU on Thursday night. Another possibility would be to move the D-4 final to Saturday night, play the D-3 semis on Friday night and then the D3 final on Sunday.

Good call Ctown, IF the games are called off tomorrow night the regional will be played at Liberty Benton on Thurs........closer for all 3 teams participating except a little further drive for Huron.

ONU is bad but better than LB because of extra capacity

Liberty Benton is better for OG because it is closer, and OG has never lost a boys basketball game at LB :). ONU has been difficult, to say the least, over the years for OG. Not to mention the OG crowds have been slim so far this tournament (for OG standards) and I wouldn't expect much from Huron on a Thurs. night. LB would be fine.

Earlier they were leaning closer to 2-4 inches, not as windy and ending early afternoon. They upped it to a winter storm warning later today with 5-8 inches and the high winds and ending later towards the evening. Although on Accuweather they're still saying 2-4 inches at the bottom of same page that they're calling for 5-8. Trying to cover themselves it looks like. supposed to start out as rain plus it's been warm so it might take awhile to transition to snow and hold down the total that actually sticks on the ground. I just know I'm going to have Punxsutawney Phil fill out my NCAA brackets, he was dead on when he predicted six more weeks of winter back on February 2nd :-)

The old barn :-) And to think back in the 80's we thought that arena was so neat with its big scoreboard that scrolled messages.

I heard LB is the frontrunner in emergency cases.....I hope this megastorm part 30 misses us and the "expert" weathermen are proven to know not as much as they think yet again because I love calling games at the Stroh and want to another one tonight.

Its the money road... think about how much money goes up and down that road everyday. Its the first road to get touched by plows. It wont even be snowing yet and they are out there. Not saying it never gets bad,but ive been out here for many many years, it will be fine .

Its not the snow that will make it bad... its the drivers in the cars that will make it "bad"! IMO :)

First run to Toledo in. Getting first load on the truck now.... passed two salt shakers.... one south bound at Perrysburg, and the other was at the pike hitting the overpasses and off/on ramps ...
