Yes, Regina (Gina) Hochstetler is a senior this year. If there is a year Rosecrans will get Hiland it's this one. Both have great senior leadership but Rosecrans will have the height advantage. Being a Hiland alum of course I want them to win this, but I know how some others feel about it. Hiland will-as always-have a coaching & scouting advantage. If weather allows, I'll be there.

As for Newark Catholic - they played at the Classic without their PG. In the first 11 minutes of the game, my thought was "I have NO idea why they are ranked no. 1 in D4 - Hiland will KIILL them if they play like this!" Then, it was like a flip switched and they turned into a COMPLETELY different team. I've hardly seen anything like it. I'm sure some of this had to do with their playing the 10 am game... I'm sure they'll be up for tournament play, and they have their PG back, but I could see where they might get out of sorts if calls aren't going their way.
Games should be able to get played on Saturday. I think the heavier snow is supposed to be Sunday. Do you know any radio station that is on the I Heart Radio or Tune In radio app that is broadcasting that game? Always wanted to see Hiland and Delphos St. John's play, Closest they came was back in 2000 when #2 St. John's was upset in the semifinals by 1 point by their league rivals Marion Local then Hiland defeated Marion Local in title game. St. John's played a lot of young players this year so maybe they can make it to state again in a couple years.

BlueBucks..........

Now, I know you are a die hard Blue Jay fan, but I don't see the Jays in Cbus for quite some time.......at least not playing there....and hey....what's up with not rooting for Hiland....I am sure tflo was about ready to flip out on that remark......to me, Hiland is the most respected D4 girls team in the state of Ohio....I love how they play and are always well coached....I will always wish them well.....as for the Jays.....let's be realists here.....numbers are way down, glory years were late 70's and early 80's and I don't see a big change coming anytime soon......

tflo.....good luck to your Hawks.....it is their time!!!!!

Yeah numbers are down but then basketball you just need a few good players. And St. John's played a lot of young players this year and got somewhat better towards the end of the season. With their always tough schedule I know even if they improve they will not automatically jump up to a 15+ win team next season but think the year after that they can compete for a MAC title and hopefully a regional berth or maybe more if other teams in this part of the state are a little down. Since St. John's was the 1st or at least one of the first girls basketball powers I root against teams that are trying to win as many titles as DSJ has. Did it with South Euclid Regina, Cincinnati Notre Dame, West Holmes, Hathaway Brown. I appreciate greatness but I think a few of the schools really did recruit. Know Hiland girls have a lot of players with the same last names every year but I know the boys got that 6'10 all-state Bonifant from Strasburg that lead their boys to a couple titles. Not saying their girls recruit but I just want a new team to win it. My new motto is "If not DSJ let it be Shadyside" :-) And remember St. John's football team was 2-8 in 2007 and came back and won the state championship the next year. Again all you need is one or two good young classes that get playing time together when they're juniors and sophomores and maybe a good freshman and anything can happen. Especially in basketball

Well blue got his way... Hiland had a horrible shooting day. Kudos to Rosecrans. Hopefully they'll have everyone scouted as well as they did today. And after two losses they felt shouldn't have gone down , they earned this one. Two years ago, it was OT. Last year, hiland came back and scored the last 17 points to win by 10. Rosecrans only plays 7 and starts all seniors, so if they were going to get one, it would be this one.

Rosecrans been on the brink for a few years. Should be able to at least make it to the final 4, been awhile for them. Ft. Loramie really rolling. Unfortunately my pick for state champion division 1 Mason got knocked out of the tournament already, Perrysburg also out, knew I should have picked Princeton. Glad Versailles, Rosecrans and Twinsburg are still in it, those three teams I was worried about stumbling before regionals. Versailles is going to have a tough rematch with Casstown Miami East in the regional semifinals but the winner of that game should be a heavy favorite in the regional final. And the regional with Crestview was really hard to pick, picked Holgate. Any of the four teams there could win it.

They can make it to state anytime. They will just have to buy a ticket. I believe that's the closest they will get for a long time.

Yes they have been down for a couple years but like I said before in high school basketball especially in the smaller divisions all you need is a couple good players to turn your program around. The freshman Geise is 5'9 and probably will grow an inch or two at least, She got better as the year went on-had 17 points against Crestview in tourney. Also several sophomores saw a lot of action. Still say if they play together to improve in a couple years a really good program is possible. Not saying winning a state title but at least contending for making it to the regionals and then who knows. It's D4- all these schools are small in should go up and down, not all of their classes are going to be talented, unless they are recruiting or some of these big city schools continue to have the small schools with all the good basketball players cherry-picked. With their schedule I know they're not going to win 17 or 18 regular season games but should be able to compete with most of them and be ready for the tourney in a few years.

I hate to be the one to tell you but Kalida, Ottoville, and Crestview will dominate this area for the next 5 years.

General you may be forgetting about Arlington, they should probably be in that group too. You are an expert so I could be wrong .

Well in all honesty let's hope so. Because let's face it, girls basketball here in the Northwest part of Ohio has been down and this season I think has been the worst in a while. At least that's my opinion.

I agree bvc grad but Arlington would meet one of those teams in the regionals and by then St. John's would have already had the awards banquet and a full week of track practice. I was looking at the sectional and district teams but what the heck I'll amend my post and put Arlington in it.

OK. everybody seems to think DSJ is finished. Maybe they are but I remember back in the 90s my dad saying they will never make it back to state then from 2000-2007 they made it to state 3 times and won it all in 2002 with a team that wasn't great by their standards record wise. And again I'm not saying they will win state or even get to state in a couple of years. Just saying they should be good enough to compete for MAC title and maybe a regional berth in 2 or 3 years if some of these younger players who's seemed to get better as the year went on this year improve. and remember a lot of people seem to think DSJ recruits and I know they're not just saying that for football. I mean if they were for football wouldn't they recruit for basketball too? Any of OG's good players coming back sophomores that would like more playing time somewhere else :-)

Well my D1 predictions are pretty well shot, Reynoldsburg is the only one of my final 4 pics that made it to the regional final. D2&D3 picks look good with three out of four in both divisions making it to the regional finals-Bath being my only D2 pick that didn't get at least to regional final and Chippewa my only D3 not to make it to the regional final but that region has had a couple upsets-AP#1 Andover Valley and #3 Chippewa didn't make it to regional final. All my Final 4 picks in D4 still in it but that division's regional semifinals not starting until tonight. Anyone giving New Knoxville a.chance against Ft. Loramie? Know most people probably had Ft. Loramie or Hiland winning D4. Think Loramie wins tonight but will have a tough time Saturday with Fayetteville Perry-with Loramie's experience helping them pull it out.

Well my championship game match ups are still possible in Divisions 2,3&4. 9 out of my 12 picks in those divisions made it to the final 4 including all 4 of my D4 picks. My picks of Kettering Alter over West Holmes in D2, Versailles over Africentric in D3 and Rosecrans over Ft. Loramie all possible although the way Ft. Loramie has been putting up points I'm kind of leaning toward them now but will stick with Rosecrans since they made it this far. Since none of my.D1 picks made it to final 4 I will go with my first hunch, the team I had written down and then crossed them out-Princeton. But Toledo Notre Dame is really playing well, will be one of those two teams.. Anybody feel free to tell your pick to win championship in each division of the teams that made it to Columbus.

Rosecrans only scored 3 points in the last 11:10 of the regional final game Saturday night. Going to have to do better than that to win state :-) They only scored 22 points for the whole game and missed front end of 3 one and ones late. Very lucky to have won.

Please folks, just enjoy your kids seasons and don't saddle your kids with "state" talk?? It's so, so difficult to do. You need alot of talent, stay injury free and have some luck to get there. There were many good teams that got knocked out at the district level, some good teams that got knocked out at the regional level.

Yep, that's what happens in the tournament sometimes. And talking about going to state is what some people do in the sports forums, especially at this time of year. I hadn't talked in sports forums for years, and don't put down other teams or players or coaches. But will take a jab at other teams fans :-). Don't think the players care if someone is speculating that they might be good enough to go to state in a few years. If they are paying attention to that they probably won't be going to state :-)
