For whoever it was that originally took issue with Inselmann not being a home run hire though, I believe that the original poster didn't mean to rank the Wapak candidates into categories, it looked like he might have listed actual candidates that had applied and used the "home run" category for coaches that would be interesting to daydream about. Some pretty deep analysis for something that I don't think was originally intended as a slight.

"We saw him in high school and he was not a big-time football recruit."
"He was a decent athlete and was tough as heck, but didn't seem real fast and could never get big enough to play LB."
"Not a top DB prospect to me."

Good stuff.
I think both Inselman and Schriner would be fantastic and "home run' caliber hires for Wapak.

My home run hires category, were successful coaches in the area that everybody knows, that no homework would be needed. Not alot of fans would do their homework before forming their opinions. Mike and Kevin Fell, Todd Schulte, and Coach Schriner would be these guys IMO. They are not going to be the next head coach at Wapak so we move on.
Who are possibly some of the finalists?
1- Bill Inselmann Patrick Henry- his name has been mentioned from the beginning. Resume speaks for itself. If anybody knows what kind of offense Coach Inselmann runs please post. Alot of experience combined with our running talent could mean big things. I stated before, i feel we are built to win right now.
2- Travis Moyer Bucyrus Wynford- new name, everybody thought the coach from Bucyrus that was interested was Jake Bruner. It's coach Moyer. Coach Moyer resigned after the 2012 season to focus on his AD duties. When he resigned, he had a 58 game regular season winning streak going. Lost to Coach Inselmann deep into the 05 playoffs. Career record is very impressive also. 1995 Crestline grad. Been digging some articles on what Coach Moyers style is. 09 article talks about his wing T offense, but stats show he throws quite a bit out of it. His 09 QB went to Kentucky. Threw for about 1500 yds and 21 tds and ran for 900 more. Read a later article, talking about for keeping balance, he likes to spread it out and let his QB operate. IMO sounds like Wapak's offense in 2011. We would dive, trap, sweep you with Pickens, then go in shotgun and spread it around with Kraft and Carder etc.
3- Bill Speller Wayne Trace- believed to be a finalist. State runner up this past season. young guy, 40 i believe. Runs a 5 wide throw it around. Career record is so-so. Don't know alot about him either. Anybody got any insight on him? How was Wayne Trace before he got there? Slowly got better?
4- Shane Patterson Wapak DC- believed to be a finalist. Your only in house applicant with a chance. Kids love him. Running the show with off season lifting and conditioning since Frye left. I got nothing against Coach Patterson, but my only concern would be who runs the offense if he would take over? Frye and his son Bo ran the offense. In house, you could maybe move Todd Erb to O, maybe move freshman coach Adam Friemring up. Stated this before, with Patterson, I would bring Mark Law back. Love him or hate him, he has the most offensive experience in house. Somebody mentioned him earlier, but get Law and maybe see if Coach Dustin Dobie is interested in coming back. He is coaching WR's at Minster the last few seasons. Coached Wr's under Fell and Zimmer. Frye didn't need a Wr coach since we don't throw. Maybe Law, Dobie, and Schnarre running the O with Patterson as HC.
Those are the names I've heard or seen. Still probably a name or two out there we haven't heard who will get an interview. Be an interesting few weeks. AD hopes to have a coach by the Feb 25 board meetings.

I don't see alot of WR talent on the roster. I see alot of RB talent. 5'10-6ft 180-200 lb athletes in excess. Keaton Metz, Adam Henderson, Cameron Lauck, Jared Cockerell, Aaron Chambers, Colt Merricle, Dylan Kuehl. Maybe be missing somebody, but you get the point.

Actually the spread offense is the easiest to run from a line standpoint and the better your passing game gets the easier it is for your line. For example o g used to send a 2 man rush against kenton. How hard is that to block ?

The spread adds additional dimensions that the defense has to consider....if run properly, you get results like you see from Oregon and Baylor at the college level.

The deadline to apply for the open varsity head football coaching position at Wapakoneta High School expired Tuesday.
The school district received 48 applications for the position as of Tuesday after Doug Frye’s resignation less than three weeks ago.
Wapakoneta City Schools Athletic Director Brad Rex said the hiring committee met Wednesday night to discuss the applicants.
“We’ll have the first round of interviews next week,” Rex said. “Hopefully, the first round will be finished next week. That will leave us with a decision to make on who we want to bring back the following week.
“We’d love to have a hire by February’s board meeting.”
The next Wapakoneta City Schools board of education meeting is scheduled for Feb. 25.
The school district is seeking a replacement for Frye, who led the Redskins to a 33-10 record in four seasons, the best stretch of football in school history.
Rex, a member of the hiring committee, described what he wishes to see in the school’s next head coach.
“From my perspective, I’d like to see somebody who has experience at building and keeping a program running,” he said. “Doug Frye came in and did a great job. He got our program where we are. We need to bring somebody in who can keep us where we are.”
Rex said he does not feel the successful candidate needs to have had experience as a head coach.
Other members of the hiring committee include WHS Principal Scott Minnig, WHS Assistant Principal Will Snyder, Wapakoneta Athletic Boosters President Dave Acheson, school board member Ron Mertz and community members Walt Turner and Carl Wintzer.
Mertz described what feels is important when choosing the next coach.
“I’m looking for someone who is going to give us longevity,” he said. “I don’t want someone who will be here for one or two years. I want them to keep our program sustained in a winning fashion.”
Mertz was asked whether he prefers a candidate with previous head-coaching experience at the high school level.
“We’re looking for a coach who has had winning ways and knows how to handle a program, either a really good head coach or a good first assistant coach,” he said.
Rex said 48 applicants matched his expectations in terms of approximately the number of people he anticipated to apply for the position.
The last time the school district was hiring for the position in 2010, 47 applied.
Coming off of the best four-year stretch in school history, although the number of applicants is only one more than last time, Rex believes the quality of applicants, collectively, is much greater.
“This time around we’ve got some very, very good people,” he said. “It seems like we have more good people than we did last time.”
Rex said, still, some applicants are lacking the qualities the hiring committee is seeking.
“A certain number of people go fishing,” the AD said. “They’ll see a job posting and they just put their name in. They don’t have the experience to warrant an interview, like kids who just graduated from college who have no experience.
“It’s the quality of ones you like and are looking for. We’ve got more than enough qualified people to make a decision this time.”
Rex said Frye will vacate his teaching position in the school district effective Friday.
Otherwise, not too many positions in the school district are anticipated to be available for next school year.
It will be tough but not impossible for the new football coach to land a teaching position in the district.
“It’s not even certain but I believe we might have a physical education job based on a retirement,” Rex said. “There could be some other retirements in different areas but we’re not 100 percent of those at this time.”
Given the timeline the hiring committee wants to decide on a new coach, Rex was asked whether it’s possible the new coach will accept the position without necessarily a teaching position in place as well.
“That would be something we need to sit down with the board and superintendent about and decide what to do,” Rex said. “I think we’ll have a hard time getting a coach here without a teaching position. That’s a priority for us.”

In his 23 years, PH had 2 losing seasons (year 1 and year 5), the last 18 years were winning records. Have to go back to 1999 since he had 4 loses in regular season. Only 2 of the last 11 seasons were not 10 win seasons. PH has always been the smallest or 2nd smallest in the NWOAL. In is time at PH, 4 NWOAL teams won state titles, PH, Archbold, Liberty Center and Wauseon. PH was always one of smallest schools in D5
