I asked one of the assistant coaches if sammons had applied and he said that in conversation with Coach Sammons he stated that he was going to apply, he didn't know 100% for sure that he had applied but was pretty certain that he did. I agree with Beezer and do not feel that Sammons would make a good head coach he is ok as an assistant but don't think he is the right man to lead the football program. I also believe if they stay in house that it will be Patterson.

Has Sammons ever been a head coach? If not, how do you know he wouldn't be a good head coach? What does Coach Patterson have that Sammons does not?

What about Mark Law? I know he left the program because he didn't mesh well with Frye, is he a possible head coach or likely to return as an assistant?

On Coach Schriner, he now has a son in high school and I believe another daughter in 7th or 8th grade, so I think it unlikely he leaves OG.

We need to continue forward with the hire of Frye new blood was brought into the program with a different approach from the past. A lot of these assistant coaches who are very good guys are part of the program we don't want to go back to. Im going to repeat this again WAPAK NEEDS A PROVEN WINNER AS HEAD COACH! If your hiring a coach and your saying what if he had a chance not going to work. Im just a fan who sits in the stands cheering and high fiving everyone around me when things are going well and questioning the coach when things are going bad.

Is There any chance that Patterson goes back to SM. with frye where he was first off then went to bath then wapak. I personally think mark law or Todd Erb would be good hires. Both run the spread and can use the athletes they have. Your not going to beat a trotwood or a lot of teams in the playoffs when teams can stack 8-9 in the box against the wing-t. I also question Pattersons ability as a defensive coordinator let alone a head coach. The hybrid 3-5 type he runs creates a lot of mismatches in that defense

I'm sure Wapak will get the right coach. They have a taste of success and they don't want to go back. Also heard they lost 4 games total from 7th grade to varsity and 2 of them was the varsity.

I think Schriner would be a great fit. I think he is more interested than some think. I don't know that much about about Bill Inselmann so I can't really comment. I believe we need someone with a power running background. We don't have a lot wrs for a spread. Got tons of running back talent.

Sammons and Patterson are the key players to this new hire. I actually think they are very good defensive minds. If they buy in to the new coach, things should continue to roll on.

The elephant in the room is Mark Law. I personally believe he needs to be on the staff as an offensive assistant. Like him or hate for what he did, name one guy in this system that is a better offensive coach than Mark.

I guess we will agree to disagree on the coaching staff. A new coach doesn't need to be worrying if a assistant isn't going to agree with his style of coaching. Like I stated earlier I don't have anything against Sammons or Law but I just feel we need to keep moving forward not going back to what didn't work for us. In 4 years we are one of the top 2 or 3 programs in the WBL lets stay there and watch these kids have success and one day we will watch a state title game our Redskins are playing in.

A lot of the previous assistant coaches you talk about stayed assistant coaches under frye. They arent bad coaches its the head coaches that have been in charge. excluding erb who didnt get along with frye from the start Sammens, law,Copeland, schnarre. Patterson and Dunlap were frye guys.

Its all good this is why we all have our opinions about this subject believe everyone is not going to agree who should be head coach.

A lot of good previous coaches (Kellermeyer, Dobie, and Erb) didn't stay and coach under Frye and even more good coaches (Duncan, Dickey, Askins, and Wilson) stepped away after one year. Thats quite a bit of attrition from a group of quality coaches that do things the right away, just as they did in 2006. And I wouldn't exactly say that Sammons and Law are Frye guys.

Not sure of all the coaches resumes but, Patterson seems to be the only Frye guy,
besides his sons, having been an assistant at St Marys before with Frye.

Patterson and his family have seemed to embrace Wapak as a community
something that just didn't happen with Doug Frye.

Part of the issues that arised with previous coaches was exactly this.
a consistent comparing of Wapak to St Marys even after years of being in our community.
.
All the coaches listed in this thread that I'm aware of are quality guys
and I would not have a problem with them leading our young men

Coach Erb and Coach frye got along fine, Coach Erb did not coach for a couple years because of some issues that came about under Coach Zimmer. The only real Frye guy is Coach Patterson, all the others have been with the program at least back to Kevin Fell and some longer than that.

Fell is a big time coach but he was here and left. I can't see him coming back to Wapak. He is at a big D1 program can't see him giving that up

I agree I can't see Coach Fell coming back and I can't see Coach Shriner leaving OG but either one would be a good fit for Wapakoneta. You never know you hear so many rumors during this process but we will just have to wait and see. They stop taking applications on the 28th and the interview process begins lets just hope that our AD the school board and the committee to pick the coach do a good job and get's our kid's a coach who want's to be hear unlike Frye and let's move forward.
