How is the new ada coach anyway.

Kitna, he has done a fine job. The kids say that he runs a tighter ship and has made some changes in play calling, but the result is still good! I don't know him personally, but I didn't know Fell either.
Agreed, coach!

Coach Mauk's wife backed up what was printed in The Times. She broke her silence on FB last night. Nothing came out about personal statements made by the board or otherwise.

Here's my issue....the timeline doesn't work out.

When Mauk walked into the board meeting, he already had the offer from Mizzou. This means that he had to have inquired, interviewed, and then been offered the job in Missouri. The board meeting was January 6th.

That's a lot to have had worked out since the end of the football season? People act like this is ALL on the school board. HOWEVER, if Mauk ALREADY had something on his plate since December, that isn't all on the board. He has had it in his mind to already possibly leave. The trump card was played and it backfired.

I cannot fault him for leaving, I understand the complexities of the Ohio Retirement System. I wish him the best and thank him for his service as football coach for so many years.

Ada lost a great one last year, people thought the world had ended. Ada makes a great hire and things are back to where they were.

I'm actually hopeful for a few more changes in Kenton athletics.

I think what his wife was referencing was Mike went to the board one last time on Jan 6th to see if their support of him staying had changed. The board was still set at 2-2 with the super(?) on the fence. January 6th was nothing more than the last and final time he would check for their support. I am in no way connected to any of this. I simply read her FB post also. Tom Brim and Mark McCullough have made this personal long before January 6th 2014.

Edit for: The super has now said she would "Highly Recommend" Coach Mauk to the BOE to be rehired.

As for retire/rehire....

When teachers return as a "retire/rehire", they usually go back to the standard "Base Salary" at step one. This benefits the district financially as they would have to find a kid fresh out of college to save that kind of money. This is likely why the District said "No". They wouldn't save any money. Granted, they would lose Mauk, but it reads as if that was already a possibility.

Wouldn't they save the money from his health insurance plan?

Better than I would explain it.

Some...

Not as much as hiring someone at a fraction of the price.

Please use numbers. Save what 15% on new admin hire? Admins just didn't graduate college. 15% would amount to $10,455. What amount would they save on his health coverage?

Agreed. Was just giving one example of how a school board cannot simply shut down all sports that don't pay for themselves.

Ha ha! I did notice how the Super covered her heinie with her quote in The Times this morning. I laughed out loud.

I believe that the Board's issues were with the AD position, NOT the coaching. They had legitimate concerns that needed addressed.

If they have concerns, why did they reportedly offer 90%. If there were problems, there would be NO offer.

You also have to take into consideration the effect it could have on future retire/rehire candidates in the school system.

Bingo. School boards sometimes have to either set or adhere to precedents.

The president of the BOE today in The Kenton Times publicly stated they were interested in negotiating a package. So they are past setting or adhering to precedents, I would guess.

I understand the love that many Kenton people have for Coach Mauk. However, it is not like he is irreplaceable. 2 state titles in 31 years is a nice accomplishment but certainly not outstanding. Since the 2 state title runs in the early 2000's, Kenton has only made 1 state title game appearance, losing in the state final game in 2011.

Holy crap people. There are plenty of Mike Mauks out there. This dude doesn't walk on water. Hire a good person and see what happens. Sh*t, it's only high school football.

I think if Mike could walk on water, he could get the 12 Apostles to do it with him in a spread formation
