If Benny stays in town He is the obvious choice. Not sure if he is staying though. They will hire from within. The townsfolk is in an uproar already, and there will be hell to pay if they bring in somebody who changes the whole system and they go 3-7. Also, it's really not a super hot job.You have all of the socio economical challenges coupled with a fan base that is very unrealistic, and lacking basic football understanding. That combo can be a very serious headache to a new coach.

I heard four Amish families are bidding for the rights to bale the high school football field. Best turf in the county and no longer needed. LJ

The WBL just needs to fold. They have gone downhill since DSJ left in the early 80's :-)

The Kenton Times has a large article this morning on the matter. Coach Mauk was not forced out. There was no vote. He decided to leave on his own accord. The state of Ohio and its recent changes in teacher retirement are part of the issue. Regulations on retire and rehire forced his hand.

People are blaming soccer, wanting to lynch board members, and wanting a recall election, really sad. The man made a decision to be closer to family, he had a great run, and it's a new day.

While the Football fans of the 9 other WBL teams sigh in collective relief that Elvis has finally left the building, the WBL Baseball fans cast a woeful eye in the direction of Defiance, wondering if the great Coach Held might also want to seek challenges elsewhere, lol

From what I heard. Mauk wanted to be rehired at same pay as he was receiving. Board said sorry and he got mad then things got personal. That's when he decided to leave. I think the board did the correct thing.

Wow. He wanted the same salary. Wouldn't you like to have the same at your job. Don't talk about the retirement thing either. I love how board members act like it is their money to give out. His retirement pay has nothing to do with the athletic budget. Believe it our not. Football coaches salaries are usually not a strain on the budget because football pays for itself and usually funds the other sports programs as well.

Would you hire a principal or superintendent at same salary? Shouldn't be any different for staff members.

Depends on what that particular person brings to the table. A principal that touches kids lives in a similar way, absolutely, you better fight to keep them.

The board offered to rehire him at 90% of his pay but Coach Mauk decided to head to Missouri instead. My understanding is that Ben is going with him.
Matt Best is an assistant at Findlay High School. This was his first season with the Trojans.

I think best left right before this season. Not sure. My Friday nights are busy at another school. Matt is a great coach. He left kenton once before and came back and when he did come back he was the Oc when Maty played. Don't discount fackler either. He has been here the same time as Mauk I believe. Not sure I was in junior high when Mauk took over. My memory is a little hazy because I thought Mauk was in his 1st year when I was a freshmen but the 31 years don't add up.

So, IF true, Tom Brim and Mark McCullough are going to let a person this valuable to the school and students walk away over ~$10k. Idiots!

Hell, the school makes that much money selling 10-0 shirts every year!

Fackler who is already on staff at Kenton deserves this spot
But would he really take the job after they just stuck it to his buddy? Wow, this is really a game-changer in the WBL potentially. One thing for sure , wouldn't want to be a school-board member in Kenton right now, that's for sure, no matter what the "real" story was as to whether there was a 3-2 informal vote or not to let him retire/rehire
