Ha! Irish Viking coming in hard with the ol' make-an-accusation-then-demand-that-the-other side-prove-it-wrong approach. Well played sir!
If Quincy was the coach at Shawnee, or Elida, or Perry, or any other local school, I'm sure Xavier would attend that school as well, and, who knows, maybe one or two other kids that want to play for coach Q would follow as well. Did LCC "recruit" each of these kids from Shawnee, Elida, Perry, Bath, AND LSH in your opinion?
You want people "in the know" to "post the facts." Are you asking someone to just give you the biography of every player on the team?
The problem is this is a forum mainly filled with people from one high school towns. It seems everyone here believes that "traditional Catholic students start in kindergarten and continue until they graduate." Well, here's a news flash, that's not how it works. I went through the Lima Catholic Schools and had plenty of kids transferring in and out every year for a number of reasons. Heck, there are plenty of "traditional Catholic families" that have had some kids go to LCC and others attending Shawnee or Elida or some other school. In fact, last year there was a Stolly girl that graduated from Shawnee after attending St. Charles and then LCC! There are also the Pajkas, the Crows, the Sankos, and plenty of others that have had some kids graduate from one school and another kid graduate from another. Those are all "traditional Catholic, LCC families," did those schools recruit their children away? (the answer is NO). When people have options, they aren't required to send their kid to the same school for 12 or 13 straight years. They can (and will) do whatever they believe to be best for their kid and their family.
I really don't get why it's so hard for some of you to fathom that a kid does not "belong" to some school from K-12th grade.
I actually asked for the proof a month or two ago.I don't believe I've used the words "recruit" and "LCC" in the same sentence before today. It's been kind of slow on the Corner lately, thought I would try to stir things up by using the dreaded "R" word. From clutch and Bobby's reaction, I would say it worked.
If Coach Q was a coach at one of the other schools that you mentioned and the kids went to play for him and didn't live in that district, then I would have a problem with that school also.
I really don't have a problem with LCC. .Great school, that turns out great kids. The OHSAA has a set of rules and LCC plays by them. I may not think the playing field is even, but that's not LCC's fault. I completely agree with doing what's best for your children.I hope the education they get at LCC prepares them for what's really important. The
rest of their lives. It's no doubt they will gain many more advantages from an education at LCC, than Lima Senior. The difference between the kids you mentioned leaving LCC for another school is they didn't have a voucher to attend their new school. Before anyone goes off, I'm not saying all the kids we are talking about use vouchers. It may be all, or just some. Difference is, the education is being paid for. Again, if it affords the kids better opportunities in life, good for them.
I guess my problem personally, lies with Coach Kill and Coach Q. I really don't care for either one and this is where this whole thread lies. I didn't care for Buzzy in high school. His antics then, are pretty close to what you see on the court now. As far as Coach Q, he's always seemed like a snake oil salesman to me. He doesn't get his way at Senior, and instead of staying on and helping the kids and program, he quits, Things don't go his way with the Explosion, and he quits. He advertises a charity basketball game with Allen Iverson, and Iverson is a no-show.(he says he was misled, but for something that big for this area' it should of been confirmed better than what it was). And last but not least, he runs camps for under-priviledged inner-city kids and then charges them to attend. Why not go out and find sponsors for these camps so it doesn't cost the kids anything.
Again, no real problem with LCC, they are just a by-product of the under-lying theme of this thread.
