I'd give that position at least 4-5 years before EVER passing judgement. The Lord Jesus himself could not coach Pandora to .500 at this time.

those that want to do IT...do it...
Then there are the pretenders...the ones that pick it up just in time for the season to start. They might be able to match up a little in the beginning, but eventually they will be overcome by those that do it in the offseason as well.

First difference, the boys this year were willing and excited coming in, they went to every open gym the coach had and 99 percent of the time he had them scrimmage. This doesn't help with poor fundamentals and shooting in fact it ingrains bad habits deeper. Bradic on the other hand had the boys shooting, filling out shot charts,I remember Josh Lee shot like 30,000 shots over the summer.
Second the new coach had open gyms right after football weight lifting, try to use good form on the court after doing football max outs and dog solider days.
Bradic new better he even took the boys to south carolina for camps so they could focus on basketball.
I could continue, but I think you get the point. If the new coach is going to make players out of younger kids he will need to make some changes fast, and learn this is not a basketball only school, most of them play 3 sports. Hope it works out. Thanks for nothing to those who ran Bradic out, now the boys get new coaches learning on our kids.

My point... Most of the assumed reason for success of PG basketball during the Braidic era came from factors not likley related to his summer efforts. Most likely...as with all successful programs...the kids took it upon themselves...independent of the coach...to improve their game.
When fans/parents start thinking it is the coach's responsibility to "make" a kid good...I always chuckle. The good ones make themselves good... With the help of a coach certainly... But the impact is almost all weighted toward individual effort, skill, and abilities.

Please give this new coach a few years to learn and build a program. The cupboard is bare right now and isn't well stocked for the next few years either. But there is the "choosen" class in junioir high from what I hear. If thats the case then those parents need to be working together with the high school coach right now to develope the work ethic and expectations that it will take to be successful once they get into high school.
Braidic was a good coach, but nodoby ever brings up his first stint as coach at PG in the early 90's. He had a few not so impressive years. He was run out or left, not sure which, and went to Continental and learned under Doug Williams. Coaches have to develope just like the players have to develope. Give coach Smith a chance.
