Coach, I disagree. I think Triad will beat Lehman, and will hang with Marion for awhile

I think Covington, Triad, St. Paul, and Trimble are the teams to look out for. Trimble is an interesting one since they took Newark Catholic right to the wire last year and we all saw how good Newark Catholic was last year in the state title game. St. Paul has improved a decent amount as the season has gone on, but I wouldn't exactly say this is one of their best teams.

That OVAC website is very telling on their thoughts.......
I wonder if they know the MAC has now won 105 State titles?

They firmly believe that if it had not been so windy vs Marion Local, that number would now only be 104. Must have been a serious cross wind because usually you are able to have the wind at your back for half the game.

Was the wind the only reason Shadyside lost? No. Maria Stein was bigger and had very few guys play both ways, whereas Shadyside had nearly everybody playing both ways. And, with a line like Maria Stein had, you can plug damn near anybody in at Running Back and they'll be successful, and by the way that backup Ben Schaefer was no scrub (not saying he was as good as Otte). But, the biggest reason was the wind. Shadyside had a pretty ferocious passing attack and the wind completely nullified it. The offense was a pass, pass, pass kind of offense. Without being able to pass, Maria Stein loaded up the box and stuffed the Tigers. Maria Stein was a great team, but in my opinion if that game were played on a fair weather day, the Tigers win the State Championship.

I'm in total agreement with you here LarryDavid. Factor out the wind, and SHS would have come home with the gold.

IF Shadyside would happen to make the finals vs Marion Local the pick'em contest might have the biggest spread of all time attached to it........ The highest ever was a Liberty Benton versus Vanlue football game at 63 pts..... I don't know but I'm thinking 67 sounds pretty close.....lol

Now I really want Shadyside and Marion Local to meet up. The wind isn't a 60 point swing in game.

I just read the posts about Shadyside on the OVAC website......all I can say is wow.....I guess "DSJ ran up the score" when they pummeled Shadyside, but a few of the Shadyside posters believe this Shadyside team will bring home the bacon as one fellow mentioned...."never awaken a sleeping Tiger"....that quote is very similar to the Japaneses quote after bombing Pearl Harbor when one of their leaders feared that "they woke a sleeping giant"....just a comparison...lmao...looks like if Marion Local gets the opportunity to play Shadyside, they will have their hands full......if only that wind wasn't blowing the speeds of a tornado, Shadyside would have at least one championship already......if, if, if.......seriously!!!!!!!!!

Marion Local, Covington, DSJ, Arlington, McComb, Leipsic, Lehman Catholic, Hicksville, FSJCC, and Calvert would all beat Shadyside by at least 5 touchdowns.

Marion Local would probably beat them by 9 touchdowns.

To be fair, Shadyside was completely in the game in 06 against Marion Local. It was 0-0 at half. Marion just wore them down late. Shadyside probably wouldn't have won if the winds were calm even, it just may have been closer. They have zero excuse for 2010. That game was played in perfect conditions, albeit freezing cold.

Those folks (one's on rocketcorner.com) have NO clue how really good Shadyside is this year. I know they have to play it one game at a time and get past Trimble first but, I don't see Shadyside losing in their region.

I hope they post more today than they did yesterday afternoon--like only 2-3 posts all day 'til evening time. (I like to giggle!) :D

LOL

"Shadyside has respect from all over the state, otherwise there would not be these idiots posting this crap from a couple of fans from MAC schools on a Ohio Valley site. Both times we made the state championship game, we dominated schools from the North, East, and southern part of the state. Yea, we got beat by a MAC school in 06, but the score at halftime was still 0-0, and ended up 17-0. Still a very competitive game, wind or no wind. DSJ destroyed us a few years later with probably the best team they ever had. If it wasn't for fellow Region 23 Private school Newark Catholic in the early 2000's, we probably would have made it there before.

As for the western part of the state playing a "better brand of football", that is not the case. While they may dominate small school football, it is just that...."SMALL SCHOOL FOOTBALL". They do not produce GREAT teams or players that make it to big time colleges or pros.

I guarentee that an all star team from the OVAC would demolish an all star team from the MAC and an All Star team from Belmont County would destroy an all star team from the county that any individual MAC team is from.

I got to compare the MAC to a Mount Union....they can brag about numerous championships, but in reality, they are not a STATE POWERHOUSE just like Mount Union is not a National Powerhouse."

I have to agree, the MAC is a big fish in a little pond. Small school football is not deep at all outside the MAC. With that said there have been quite a few MAC players play D-1 college and even NFL.
