I heard they ran this up 4 or 5 touchdowns against a beat up VB team. I don't think LB should boast too much running trick plays if they were up that much.
1. the 'trick' play was the 3rd TD of the game. So it was only 14-0 at the time.
2. 2nd team players were in during the 3rd quarter.
3. A 2nd team interception added the last score.

Thanks Sand, based on that I see no problem with any of it. Back to Arlington / LB game. Are we able to get tickets early? I know the McComb game it was a long, long line.

I would agree with that based on what I have seen by both teams this year. If Arlington becomes one dimensional I am not sure they can win. LB will have to be able to move the ball on a tough Arlington D.
Not sure I would call Arlington's D "tough." If you compare stats from the McComb and Liberty Center games, Arlington has looked very suspect (especially run D). However, vs. the lower-tier BVC teams (and Leipsic) they looked pretty good. My opinion is that LB has little trouble running against Arlington, but that is why they play the game.

I wish I could add something of relevance to this topic, but really, I think no one really knows which Arlington team will show up this Friday. One thing is for sure, the Arlington run D will have to be at their best and the offense just needs to control clock, put points on board and NOT turn it over passing too much. Rettig is pretty darn good - I would like to see him run it 25 times and set up the deep throw. I do have a feeling that had we won against Liberty Center 3 weeks ago, this conversation would be much different. If one looks at the stats that night, we had more first downs, more yardage, turned it over 6 times AND had one of the worst no calls I have ever seen (since last years Leipsic TD overturned). We lost by 4 pts I believe. SO...having said that, I think we got a fighting chance this week but will have to play well, smart and take advantage of any mistakes that LB has (if any). Hoping for a great game - let's see what we get. Rumor has it Feathers is ready to "make it rain" post game should this one turn into an Arlington victory....

My apologies, they were up 14-0 in the first quarter when they ran the trick play. Some unhappy VB fans told me they were up 4 or 5 TD's. Maybe it was the fact they were up 14-0 in the first quarter that they took exception to it.

any word on the tickets? It was really bad for the Mccomb game. I got in line at the LB/Mccomb game at 6:40 and I didn't get my tickets until a few minutes into the first quarter.

You're right. I was lucky and got there very early. I looked over and the line was out of hand.

Hopefully they have more working the ticket booth this time.

Which teams show up for Friday night?, I think the answer lies with the defenses.

Offense - Both Arlington and LB score an average of around 50 pts per game and generate 400+ yards of offense.

Defense - But, if you toss out the 70-0 blowouts of Cory Rawson, Arcadia, Vanlue, Van Buren, PG, etc........and just look at Arlington and Liberty-Benton's bigger three games it tells an interesting story. Liberty-Benton has only given up 4 pts per game all season long, and in their games vs. Wynford, McComb and Leipsic they only gave up an average of 7 points per game. On the other hand Arlington's 3 games against more competitive teams (Leipsic, McComb and Liberty Center) they yielded an average of 21 points per game. IMHO....if they give up 21 points to LB, they will lose.

This is the guy that predicted McComb wouldn't be within 3 scores either... Remember? (Alge's Friend) I'm not sure he has posted since then.

Oh yeah lol. I knew I remembered his name from somewhere...

I'm not biting this time, I just have to keep telling myself that... If we ignore him, maybe he'll go away...

Regarding the ticket situation, I have also noticed that when we got there that every year, it is the slowest entry into a game as I have ever seen. I guess one should plan on getting there 30-40 minutes early to assure seeing kick-off? What gives?

The bottom line is they need more than 2 windows open for games like this. Hopefully that happens Friday.

Let's hope! I am going with LB by 14. I think will be close game but LB speed pulls away in this game. They have a lot coming back off a great season last year and have proved themselves in big games this year. Arlington has a good team but haven't beat an upper tier team yet. I think Arlington chances are coming in as an underdog and catching them off guard. I don't think the LB coaches will let this happen but that might be their only chance. Looking forward to a great game.

I don't know that it makes a difference but for a long time the game between these two has been very early in the season and it seemed that L-B was the better prepared team. Now this is the last game of the reg season will Arlington be better prepared? I know after several of the games my friends from Arlington said they just weren't ready that early in the season for a big game. I guess we will know more Friday night this should be a good game but if L-B jumps out early will Arlington pack it in or will they play till the end as they did with McComb?

At the McComb game LB had at least 10 people standing around a "vote for the levy" table talking to each other inside the fence while the line to get into the game wrapped around the parking lot. Only school systems!

Well, the "show down" is here. For what its worth....here's my 2 cents:

Importance:
If LB wins, they win the BVC outright and host on week 11. If Arlington wins, they share the BVC crown with LB and host on week 11.

Liberty-Benton (I have seen them 5 times):
- LB played 12 games in 2011 and 14 games last year. This group of kids have been challenged and have some "big game" experience.
- LB is big. Their QB (Craft) is 6-5 and 205. Their feature back (Combs) is 6-1 and 225. Their line is huge, May 6-2 245, Warrington 6-1 206, Cornwell 6-2 240, Hartley 6-0 223, Kingsinger 6-0 240. And they are athletic.
- LB has "dominated" at least 2 quarters of everygame (McComb was competitive til half) and have yielded only 4 points per game throughout the season.

Arlington (I have seen them twice):
- Arlington has dominated 7 teams, and have lost two games to two good teams by only 5 points each.
- A-town proved they can come back quick when they scored 3 times in 3 minutes against a good McComb team (at McComb), That's the mark of a good team.
- Arlington is big as well, Grieser, Romick, Hartman, Inniger, Glick, Blunk and Berhardt average out at 235#
- If things would have bounced the right way, Arlington could very well be 9-0
- You can't discount the Leipsic win, probably the best performance in the BVC this year. It was unbelievable to watch.

Monkey on the back:
- Will the results of this series over the last ten years or so be a rallying point for A-town, or a mental block? Most of the A-town kids on this years team were only 6 or 7 years old when this streak started....I would think the A-town staff would use this game as a rallying point and benchmark for the season. Got to believe the Arlington kids will be fired up and ready to roll at kickoff.

Key points:
- Both teams feature big talented RB's. Combs and Rettig will roll into this one with a "catch me if you can" mentality. IMHO, the team that controls the line of scrimmage and controls the running game....will be the winner.
- As a point of the obvious, turnovers will be huge as well. LB turns the ball over more than A-town and Arlington also has more picks than LB. This turnover margin could playout big as the game unfolds.

My gut feeling tells me that this could be a nice win for LB, in the 35-14 to 38-13 range. I personally think Arlington is one year away. But I am not counting A-town out of this one. They played McComb and Liberty Center very well and I am sure they learned a lot from those games. Since both teams will more than likely be in the playoffs my main hopes in the game is that both teams come out of it injury free.

All the above is just MHO! Good luck to the Eagles in week 10, good luck to the Red Devils in week 11. Go BVC!

BlueTiger - good post and I agree with you for the most part. Interestingly enough, Arlington's line is probably bigger than LB's which should make for an interesting night on both sides of the ball. Arlington has to control the line of scrimmage defensively more than anything IMO - if that does not happen, we are in for a long night. If we do, I think we can win and should win - but that is a million dollar question. Here's to getting thru the gates before the opening kick...:)
