I drove by Cory-Rawson High School yesterday. It was about 5 pm and they were not out practicing. To me, it looks like they are just throwing this whole season of 2013 out the window if you would ask me. It seriously looks like they will be the next school to drop football. Thoughts???

When you only have 20-some kids out you can get thru drills much faster than a team with 60. :punk:

The soccer team was practicing on the football field.
Maybe they need to get rid of Dave Siferd

No. His final year with the Hornets was 2010. He currently is an assistant coach at Allen East under his son Mike. He should be finished really. He has been coaching since 1967.

You folks need to get out more if you just now think that soccer is hurting C-R football. That and the fact that there is very little school spirit at most all sporting events. There is very little community support with usually only parents and grandparents at the sporting events. The commitment to excellence in sports starts and ends however with the administration.
I don't think the administration is the problem at all. The football coaches they have really suck and need to be replaced. Once that happens, positive things will start to open up so they can take a positive step in the future.

And who is responsible for hiring coaches? Administration. Besides that point they could dig up Vince Lombardi, Woody Hayes, or even hire Mike Fell and it wouldn't make a **** bit of difference. Without a big influx of new athletic students and fantastic parents to go along with those kids CR teams will continue to struggle. It's been fading as a football school for a long long time. Sure there is a 2002, 2003, 2009 that pop up but those are fewer and farther in between.

As a proud alumnus, of C-R it pains me to see what they have become. The administration feels that show choir should be on the same playing field as football or athletics for that matter. You have a Principal that is as soft as toilet paper who never played a sport in his life, but rather was in choir and band. I dont know much about the Superintendent, but he too only coached golf and track. The school board has former football players on it, but they too were soft as hell when they played. There is no toughness, there is no spirit and that all starts with the Principal. If they want C-R to be a football school than it can happen. Until then C-R will continue to believe that beating Vanlue is the highlight of the year. Hell, they dont even do well academically...I dont live near there but I sit back and cant belive wtf is going on.

In all honesty, if they invest more in show choir then so be it. I like football as much as the next person, but as long as they are partaking in some form of extra curriculars in the school, then it's successful in my eyes...whether it be show choir, band, FFA, etc. I can't fault them there.

I remember when Scott Garlock took over there in like 2002 or so? He had them pretty competitive fairly quickly and then I think they had some success after he left for Liberty Benton.

What happened?

this isnt a show choir forum, it is a football forum. I have no problem with "extra-curriculars" and in fact think they are all good. It is my belief that if you have a good football team, basketball teams, marching band, than all other programs including academics will be successful.

Cant disagree with much of the above so far.

....Other than.... the soccer team on the football field... that one didn't happen.
and ... coaches can only coach those willing to come out and stay out.

We do have, IMO, a very good younger person that is running for BOE this fall. I hope he will help be the start of the turnaround

But truthfully ....until the current principle leaves nothing will change

Two reasons:
1. The hard-to-accept fact is that class sizes are dwindling, for the most part, in rural schools & also that kids, as a whole, are less physically active today due to having other options for entertainment with television, internet and game consoles, as opposed to going outside and actually doing something physically with friends. Participation in extra-curriculars are down across the board. Also, concept of "team" is down across society as "individuality" is being encouraged from younger ages.
2. If smaller schools wish to excel in fall sports, they will need to choose between soccer and football. It's extremely rare for small rural public schools to be good at both without an outstanding culture/long-tenured coaches.

Ok, the point of this thread was to bring up the situation. Mission accomplished. People are aware.
Now, LET IT GO and move on.
Don't be "that guy" who bashes coaches or programs anonymously on a blog site. If you have an issue, either publicly address it at a school board meeting or go talk to one of the higher ups about it. Unless you are willing to offer your own coaching expertise services on how to make the program better to the people making the decisions or see it through yourself, stop posting and calling out your administration and BOE members on a blog under "(insert screen name here)." If you're upset, do something about it. Don't hide behind a computer like teenagers do all too often nowadays.
*I have no affiliation with Cory-Rawson, but I've seen these types of threads far too often on here. Nothing good comes of them.

For PM, move your mouse over persons name ou want to PM and click on it. That posters page will pop up. Just go to "Send Message" and type away. If/when you receive a reply, you will see a red number icon at top right of page my your user name. Click it to open....hope this helps Also I think you need so many posts to be able to use PM's here. A mod will have to answer on how many posts you need to utilize PM
