As a side note....the ousting of Hardin Northern for 2014 and 2015 is only for football. They will compete in the other sports..........

I am hearing of some realignment for the 2014 and 2015 season (stepped up a season). Riverdale will join the BVC and Hardin Northern will be out until no earlier than 2016. They will be invited back in then if they can field a team. Also heard the BVC has "upped" the penalty for not fielding a team for a given game. Penalty will now be $5,000 per game missed, which would equate to $50,000 per season. Anyone else hearing these rumblings?

Not what I was told, and I talked directly to a BVC administrator. Was told that HN is out for Varsity football for only the 2013 and 2014 seasons. Where it goes after that, I do not know.

Wasn't told any of that other stuff took place. Not saying it didn't, but my source didn't mention it.....

I haven't heard about the increased penalty but the people I talked to were pretty tight-lipped about the whole thing. Yes HN out for 2014 and 2015 and MAY be admitted back for football in 2016.

Upping the penalty agree with , but banning them from playing football until 2016 is a little over the top,if they can field a team next year then let them play.

Has to be a penalty for the late notification, and you know the BVC has had time to think about this for the past 25 years with the 'Lues low numbers . The message has to be sent..... do not wait til end of June!

As far as fault crop... it ultimately comes down to the kids, you either play regardless of who the coach is because you want to or you dont. Playing for Pete was never 100% "fun" and he wasnt always the nicest guy to play for, but I wanted to play more than I didnt. Time for the kids to grow up alittle! Imo

The ban has to be for at least 2 years so the other schools have a chance to fill out their schedules. I am sure the fear is that if they go on a year-by-year basis they will run into this same scenario again.

Your simplistic brush that you used there proved that you never understood the dynamic of the situation or you would have made it a better place to coach.

So now everything's my fault? The problems existed long before I got there.

Penalty fits the crime as far as I'm concerned. Lots of time, effort and soon to be unnecessary travel has occurred because of this. It does sound like McComb has indeed found a game? That would leave just LB left.

It also now gives the BVC time to find a new member.

The Courier confirms what Bluetiger said. Riverdale will take over HN's football schedule in 2014. I had forgot that Riverdale would have to play independent next year, so that works out.

HN not in the BVC would solve the problem so to speak, but I don't think the BVC would take that step. If it hasn't been done with Vanlue, then I doubt it would with HN. But maybe I'm wrong.

Big difference is that Vanlue never cancelled a sports season.

Not even a comparison HH75, he put us in the best situation to win. In June when these idiots released a statement saying they only had 12 kids, and the heaviest player was 170 lbs you certainly don't run a full house power running game do you ?

As for you ericles one last time it was not like that when I went through there, in fact there were hall of fame coaches there two of them volleyball and football so don't go there anymore with me,as well as playing for some pretty good basketball coaches, and always known for their track teams it's been done before.

I guess at the end of the day HN is lucky to still be a member.

I think we all seem to forget that with small school HS sports, things go in cycles. There are many schools that have seen their share of both bountiful harvest and famine. Unfortunately for HN, this is a very "down" cycle. It's really too bad. I think it is all-too-easy for many people to NOT keep a level head on these forums when their team is at either extreme of these cycles. We see it all the time...those that brag when their team is successful and those that place blame when their team is struggling. I think is very easy to point fingers on who is to blame, but I think that in reality it boils down to home life (upbringing), society in general (what we put our priorities in), and possibly the social-economic status of the community. There will be better days ahead for Hardin Northern.

Sad to see this happen to HN, but I suspect others will follow their path in next 5-10 yrs with CR, Vanlue, Arlington and Arcadia not far behind.

I just cannot see HN ever playing football again in the BVC...it will take a valiant effort to maintain interest with their football program to get numbers sufficient to play IMO.

As far as kids at H-N not wanting to play because it was no fun............The folks at H-N should've checked with the folks at Vanlue. Those kids at Vanlue seemed to have fun while getting pummeled almost every Friday night for what 30-35 years? While the parents at H-N had/have no clue how to handle that, (Because let's face it, they were used to being the ones doing the pummeling and naming their scores) the kids at H-N just needed some guidance.........Maybe they just needed to hire one of Vanlue's 10 or 15 former coaches.

It takes a special group of kids to show up week after week and take a beating. You just have to wonder if Vanlue ever had a kid seriously injured, if we'd be singing a different tune.
I'll continue to give HN the benefit of the doubt as they are doing what's in the best interests of their athletes. It took alot of guts to pull the plug on the varsity season, and it looks like some cages were rattled over there.
The plan from here for them would be to keep all their JV games scheduled, play those games, really push for numbers in the midget and jr. high programs and this may never be an issue again.
It's silly to talk about monetary penalities when these schools scrape by to pay their regular bills. Do you honestly think Hardin Northern is in a position to pay any schools money for NOT having football? The really sad part is that like most schools, the football programs is the breadwinner and the other sports are funded by the gates from football and basketball home games. How's that work at HN now?

Never said anything about him not putting us in a position to win lots of games. Just that at the end of the day he only cared about the W . I could have done with out all the f bombs and screaming, but I knew that if I wanted to play thats what I had to put up with. At the end of the day my desire to play out weighed his tirades. I learned how to handle his coaching methods and could separate out what I needed and what I didnt.
Im glad HN and Pete won all they did, dont get me wrong. And afterit was all over I never regretted playing for him. I just dont fall to the alter. We all have faults

I'm sure the administration /BOE could have done things differently but at the end of the day the coach is the coach and there isnt one kid that can change it. Could the "table be set different "to make the situation better?Sure. But that can be said for everywhere.

So you either suck it up and play or you dont, If the kids at HN (or any where else) have to have everything exactly the way they want it or who they want to coach them to play , then they are in for a long miserable life.

But it is what it is and the kids currently at HN have ultimately chosen their fate, they chose NOT to play.

And i do agree that HN has played their last BVC football game.

Or two or three new members. HN will be gone and who ever is next to fold the football tent up.

Two year gives them time to make a strong push at a combo/ triple play of Ada, bluffton, grove, P Henry. I think those would be on the primary target list seeing how they already went east and north. Have to give the west side of the league a bone. Separately these 4 would problably not be intested in being the 14th member but they might give it more thought if they know they can move togeather.

Just my opinion .
