The conference should act now to allow Riverdale to play the BVC schedule in place of Hardin Northern in 2014 instead of beginning in 2015.

Now you're talkin'.

You don't get it. They knew the kids weren't going to step up in January, and waited to June. Don't preach t me ericles about a concerted effort put forth I've been there done that with the hunky dory results to follow. There are no kids in the top two grades as stated. Culpability lies somewhere and to me it all starts at the top.

What don't I get? The bottom line is that ultimately the kids and their parents are to blame for not committing to playing. Heaven forbid the administration give them every chance to step up to the plate.

As we can clearly see, finding an opponent on a certain week isn't as easy as many would think. Most schools have their games scheduled way in advance. The only other option would be to just wait and see if another really small program would have to bail on their season once it got started and that's just luck.

Oh they had another option. Just take HN's check for the lost gate and not find another game. Don't wanna hear any whining about road trips.

I believe they tried, but Riverdale won't (and shouldn't) burn any bridges and break current contracts.

Then don;t listen. The bottom line is HN caused havoc for every teams season with their late notification. These kids are asked to work year round. It's not about taking the money and sitting at home on a Friday night. Every BVC team deserves the opportunity to play a ten game schedule. After it was all said and done Leipsic had two teams in three states that had an open dates. Some of the other BVC schools are not as lucky as to even find an opponent.

Cropduster is right on. The HN administration knew they didn't have the commitment back in February. You can say it's the kids fault, but those kids did not change their mind from February to June to not participate. The numbers in June were no different than february.

Detroit Edison (public) now looks like they have 10 games scheduled for 2013, and LB is not one of them. :(

I'm sure I had nothing to do with it, but I'd just like to take the credit on getting the LC-Arlington scheduled. I'm the one that took the time to realize they were both free. :punk:

Sorry dhsdawg to burst your bubble. There's a BVC guy who works at LC. Rex was all over that in less than 24 hours after HN announced there decision.

I kind of go along with this as well. You can blame a lot on 14-18 year olds, but the buck stops with the adults running the show. They knew they had this problem for a while.

There are no winners in this situaion

For Hardin Northern, I applaud them for this decision, it took alot of guts to pull the plug like this, especially in a community with alot of pride in football. But it was a good decision for the safety of their kids. Who knows how many schools have sent out weak, out manned freshman on a field of juniors and seniors just to not forfeit a high school football game.

For the other schools, it presents a hole in their schedules that many may not be able to fill. Driving 3-4 hours it's a great option, but for some it's the only thing they can do other than skipping the week altogether.

Figured they would be lol. Made too much sense, considering LC has a history of long trips and they're fairly close to home. Should be a great matchup for both.

Arlington contacted LC first.

According to the open date web page, LB is now the only school in Ohio without a game in Week 6. Looks like they may be out of luck unless they can dig up an out of state school. I guess its possible that something could open up at the last minute, but its not looking good.

You can place blame on both sides. At the core, the kids didn't commit to playing, so you can't blame the admins for pulling the plug. BUT I completely agree that it WAS foolish to wait as long as they did because there are ramifications for everyone.

Sounds like Warren JFK might now be open week 4?
Always a watchful eyes on those Tiffin Calvert Senecas, Marion Local Flyers, Fort Loramie Redskins , New Albany Eagles.

I wonder if there really is a "right" way to handle this that will make all sides happy. For example, the much-maligned HN superintendent held a couple of meetings about the football situation over the past year or so & each time was told by the community/parents that they should keep trying to field a varsity team. I am pretty sure that if he had unilaterally decide to drop varsity football this winter that there would be an angrey thread on here from HN folks ripping him for that choice...

If he would have done it in the winter, I doubt that any of the other BVC teams nor their fans posting on this forum would have had an angry post on this thread. JMO

That is very true. My point is that the other schools would not be upset with him but the HN folks would be calling for his head. No way to do this without making someone mad - that is my point...
