"Easy Button" scheduling (or not rescheduling in the case of spring sports). Taking 3 years to play the equivalent of two full seasons is only jipping the kids. Or worse not even scheduling full seasons. Playing the same crappy non league teams in certain sports because they are easy to get = easy button.

In their defense many are coaches, sometimes in multiple sports. Thats a whole lotta job responsiblities with very little pay.

Not buying the first two, the conference schedules are almost set year after year, every other year, they flip from front/ back or visa versa. Heck, in the PCL for hoops, they have what, 18 conference games? Colleges have a schedule in pencil, but when TV dollars come in, they bounce games and buy out schools all the time.

Now the 3rd one, I'll buy. With e-mail, texting, scheduling can happen easily and much quicker than before. Heck, many AD's have an office staff person do all the paperwork on these contracts.

I've been an AD before and I can tell you both that there's a hell of a lot more involved than just the paperwork for the game contract. Try dealing with spring sports when it's a really crappy spring weather-wise like we're having now. You have to check your schedule against that of the other school and see where you might be able to fit the game in. Drag it out long enough and then you have to work around tournament games. Sometimes games will get postponed 3-4 times before they get played; heck, at the school where I used to be, one year on the date where we should have been playing our last conference BB/SB games, we had only played exactly half of them and didn't get the last one in until the third week of May. Oh, and if you're responsible for assigning your own umpires like I was, good luck trying to find two competent ones that have an opening on whatever date you need them.

Let me see... in the fall boys golf, girls golf with one coach so can't have matches the same day. Boys soccer V/JV - some years, girls soccer one field, boys/girls cross country, volleybal V/JV, Freshman - some years and JH, football V/JV, freshman - some years and JH need to be scheduled and find officials, need ticket sellers/takers and other staffing/security. You're right, the "easy button" takes care of it.

Winter has boys/girls basketball V/JV, Freshman, JH, for a total of 166 games, wrestling V/JV, JH, and swimming boys/girls... easy season.

Spring has Varsity baseball/softball 25-27 games and maybe play 18 depending on weather, JV softball/baseball 15 or so, boys/girls track V and JH. JH softball ...

Don't forget the electronic scheduling tool that the OHSAA mandates you use, myOHSAA, that has more issues than Lindsay Lohan. We haven't even talked about the "issues" that occur during seasons with coaches/parents/players... When humans interact, there are problems that arise.

An AD's job is like most jobs in education, everyone thinks they can do a better job than the people who have the job.

Until you've walked in those shoes, be thankful someone else is.

As for the BVC, scheduling will not be as easy as some think on here.

Is Ada going to the BVC?

If they (the BVC) want to get to 14 teams it's going to come from Carey, Elmwood, or Ada. I don't see Grove or Bluffton leaving the NWC.

Probably not... Ada is more interested in a situation that includes Bluffton, Allen East, or Grove.

I can't see them leaving without one of the others... The nice thing about the NWC is they don't have to worry about JV or JH sports. They consistently field them year in and year out.

That being said, Ada will always listen because of where they are geographically in the NWC... Paulding is tired of coming to Hardin County as much as Ada is tired of going there...

If Ada would join the BVC, the b-ball championship games could be played at King Horn Center @ ONU. Much nicer and more seating than Croy. Obviously not centrally located, but it would be nice to have a facility that would be able to give spectators a chance to see multiple games instead of clearing the gym.
Falcon, what makes you think ONU offers a good place to watch a basketball game? This is one of the single-worst facilities for basketball in Northwest Ohio. There was a thread a month or so ago placing this as one of the 5 worst to host tournament games. I would pay to watch a game a Vanlue before I would pay to watch one more game at ONU!!!

I must say I agree with this post....ONU facilities are brutally bad to watch a game. Reminds me of Lakota's new gym but on steroids...

Maybe not the BEST place (and certainly not a central location), but the BIGGEST around these parts. I was thinking in terms of seating capacity so more people could watch multiple games in a "conference tournament" setup. Maybe the University of Findlay could build onto the Koehler Center and add a larger basketball arena. I think I'd rather play at Findlay or L-B high schools if the BVC ever hosted a conference tournament. I suppose if all of us were named Stewart Little, there would be plenty of room in Vanlue's gym. :)

Was not being cryptic...just being silly.

The 14th team will be a struggle, imo, due to the Vanlue, HN, CR conundrum. The schools already mentioned here won't want anything to do with numerous league opponents that either cant field a full slate of jr high/jv/varsity teams or bring less than 50 paying customers to a football game.

The conference might have better luck bringing 3 more, splitting up into two divisions for most sports, and using protected cross over games

There's a big mess out there right now. It sounds like the N10 is bickering and down a member, the SRL can't grow and may lose Tiffin Calvert by next Wednesday, the TAAC could expand by next week, the BVC needs a 14th member and may not land any of their initial targets......yikes. The SBC may land Vermilion by next week.

Another forum speculating Carey as 14th member of BVC.....would make sense especially if they do not want Upper or Elgin in N10. IMO Carey is a great BVC fit

They are, but I have never heard anything that says they are remotely interested in the BVC.

No offense to tiffin, but I hope the BVC does not go that direction. Did you see tiffin's boys numbers? It's another vanlue / HN in the making.

They are down, but those numbers might not be correct. I will say TC has never been close to not fielding a football team. They actually have a few good classes coming up with some good size kids in Jr. High. They should have a decent team the next few years.

Better than going to say ... Columbus, Cincinnati or half way across the state to try and fill a week 8'9 game with what there stuck with now. My sources have told me what was suppose to to an easy modest expansion of the league has now turned into a fiascos with the addition of Riverdale and now trying to find a 14 th member. The BVC thought they had problems before just wait and see now. My guess is they better get on the horn and talk to Ada , Carey ,Calvert someone and beg, because what they have now is a mess.

On a side note iM tired of all the HN, vanlue bashing it is what it is they have been respectable a members of the league, as of late vanlue has done real well and up until 4-5 years ago HN was and held its own in everything but baseball. We have the league championships to prove it across the board in every sport ,a lot of other BVC schools can't say that . IMHO they are and should remain in the league until those districts choose to leave.
