He lists Ada, Columbus Grove, Bluffton, Carey, Elmwood and Patrick Henry as the possibles, so pretty familiar names as far as this thread is concerned. Of those 6, I only see Ada as a remote possibility and I still say they stay put.
So if none of these pan out, what then? I hope there is no desparation invite just to get to 14 (think North Baltimore). After these 6 names, its kind of tough to come up with another that makes sense if Calvert is not going to be considered. Maybe the hope is that Vanlue or HN will solve the problem by dropping out, or at least dropping football. Forget about the BVC "kicking out" anyone. My understanding is that BVC rules are such that no school can be voted out by the others, they have to leave on their own.

I don't understand why high school conferences are so rigid in timing. Pro teams, college teams ,youth sports can all put together a scheuled and implement it in a matter of a few months. In high school, you have to have two years??? Why schedule ahead like that?
Vanlue and Hardin Norhern need to join the league with Fairbanks, Lima Temple, Lima Perry. Much more competitive for them. They should minimally do it for football, if not all sports.

Pro sports only deal with one sport and almost all play in dedicated facilities. The Detroit Tigers don't have to schedule football or basketball games, volleyball, cross country, etc.
College football? There are games scheduled ten years out.
And high school ADs are notorious for wanting to do as little as possible.

How do you figure that is the case?

As far as making the waters more murky...
If done properly, expansion could solidify the BVC's presence in the playoffs. More non-conference games gives schools the opportunity to schedule teams according to their abilities. A weaker team will probably try to schedule a game against another struggling program in order to gain a victory...this will pay second-round dividends for the stronger teams in the conference. A stronger team will schedule games against more established teams, where a victory could mean a boatload of points.
There's also the reality that the sports world does not revolve around football alone. When considering all of the sports at the JH and HS level, a move into a different conference could literally pay huge dividends.
I'm not sure what is the optimal number of schools for a conference...I'd actually prefer 12 instead of 14. Any bigger, and you may as well have 2 separate conferences...and I don't really like that idea either. The BVC will have to be careful on how the divisions are split. The NCC went about this in the wrong manner, in my opinion...but then again the NCC had a MUCH greater disparity in the size of schools than the BVC will have.

"Easy Button" scheduling (or not rescheduling in the case of spring sports). Taking 3 years to play the equivalent of two full seasons is only jipping the kids. Or worse not even scheduling full seasons. Playing the same crappy non league teams in certain sports because they are easy to get = easy button.
In their defense many are coaches, sometimes in multiple sports. Thats a whole lotta job responsiblities with very little pay.

Not buying the first two, the conference schedules are almost set year after year, every other year, they flip from front/ back or visa versa. Heck, in the PCL for hoops, they have what, 18 conference games? Colleges have a schedule in pencil, but when TV dollars come in, they bounce games and buy out schools all the time.
Now the 3rd one, I'll buy. With e-mail, texting, scheduling can happen easily and much quicker than before. Heck, many AD's have an office staff person do all the paperwork on these contracts.

To answer the original question, it will be great for Riverdale to join the BVC. Many normal rivalries that these kids play at the youth levels, crowds will be better, interest will be more.

PCL hoops do not play home and home........with only 8 teams that leaves 15 non- conference games.

Don't be so sure about that. I've been told that they've made it known to the other N10 schools they might be interersted. Most people would be skeptical, but considering where my information came from, there's at least a little bit of merit to it.
