Columbus Grove graduate, teacher and head girls coach at Liberty Benton.............I guess with Pandora being in between LB and CG on Rt. 12 would make it convenient, just didn't know Nate head boys head coaching aspirations?

So what do we know about Coach Smith. Where did he play high school and college ball. How long did he coach at the Fort? Was he liked, by the kids, by the parents, by the head coach. Good luck Coach Smith.

I believe he is a Fort grad..........
not sure about college aspirations and really don't care whether he played or not.....
And certainly don't give a rat's ass if the parents or kids liked him..........that's been one of PG's problems in the past

and certainly Good Luck to the young man as he is gonna need it if past experience is any indication :wallbash:

Logan is a Shawnee grad, originally from Elida, then moved to Shawnee.......don't think he played college, but his brother Cody played in college, I believe D-2.

I believe Smith played some college ball. I am uncertain where. As for kids liking him. A lot of the players did like him. He is young and passionate about the game good luck to him. He has a bright future.

Heard the first good report on Coach Smith. Seems his summer open gyms will not conflict with football or baseball. In past years the boys were expected to choose between sports or try to do multiple sports in the same day. It's not rocket science, just common sense. A coach that cares about the kids as a whole person, welcome addition to the district!

coach Smith should have a decent season this year,he has all 5 returning starters back with 5 guys off the bench with experience, word is he will turn these guys into a running team,I think the rocket nation will have some fun watching these guys if he decides to do just that, this team has a shot at winning a tournament game or two this season.

Five returning starters off of a BAD team doesn't always reflect a winning team the following year. Coach Smith has a long climb. Apparently the parents want him to run the floor this year?? Hope your son does well and gets some playing time.

Good luck to him, it sounds like he's doing the right things. At these small schools, you can't make kids choose sports, get with the football / baseball coaches and work out a decent schedule. You don't need to play basketball every day all summer. Same with the other sports.
I think all young coaches like the uptempo style and "run and gun" is appealing to the kids. Most of the time though, wisdom prevails and you figure out defense makes you successful. However, no new coach preaching defense is ever very popular.

If you can defend, you have a chance.

First game loss, they didn't defend well, man to man whole game don't, match up well to slow. Offense was playground ball, didn't see many set plays with picks or double picks. 3 of 18 from the line, might want to practice that along with all the shooting. Looks like a step backwards from last year, and several steps backwards from the Braidic years. Way to go school board and fans who run coaches out of a job!
